New tundra horrible mpg

And that sounds about right this thing would not get 13 miles per gallon if you threw it off a cliff. I can be on a dead Flat Road no win no nothing it will not register pass probably 11. And figuring it by hand it's pretty accurate

It gets better gas mileage around town but it does on the highway. I drive pretty slow yes I think it's out of whack

Wow. Well Toyota runs offset of a car so you don't have a lot of choices. It's way better than what was on it. And I hate black wheels. That's one of the best looking Wheels out there for that truck I would love to see what you guys are running that's so funny. Here's what was on it and they're hideous. This is one of the best selling wheels that XD offers so I guess I'm not alone.

 

I think some FFV tundras had problems where the ecu was thinking it was running e85 when running regular gas and causing mpgs to be even worse. You can get one of those wireless OBD2 readers and a certain app for phone and you can check what your alcohol % the computer is reading. Your sensor could be messed up

I have always owned American trucks and I'm trying a Toyota for the first time and so far I'm severely unimpressed. There is no physical or computative reason this truck gets this poor gas mileage. I'm looking at the physics of it. It's either tuned improperly or was not very well designed. As I said the Hummer weighs close to 3000 pounds more with bigger tires and much much worse aerodynamics. This truck should get 4 to 5 miles a gallon better than a Hummer. It's even less horsepower. I guess maybe I'm overthinking it but I'm very lost on why. I'm going to put a programmer on it has anybody tried Trinity's tuning, compared to a programmer

 

Yes that's what I'm thinking I called the Toyota dealer and they said all they can do is reflash it and they want a hundred bucks. I think I'll just go with a custom tune. But yes above is what I'm thinking I just wanted to see if anybody else has experienced it

 

I have a good Diagnostics terminal I'm going to put it on it and see what the sensor says. Right now I have ethanol in it just trying it but I'm going to go burn it out

 

I wasn’t trying to attack you bro. I think they look just fine. A lot of guys around here run methods. To each their own. I’m running the stock TRD rims at the moment. And you’re right there isn’t a lot to choose from. I don’t think your rims are funny I thought his small dig at you was funny but not a great welcome for the new dude. Hope you get your truck figured out man. We like to gain fans of the tundra not lose them.

I really don't want to get in that conversation. As it might be made in Texas it is a Japanese company and a Japanese truck. It was designed in Japan.

 

Along with the FFV ECU maybe messing up, did you buy this used? Maybe the previous owner had a tune that is messing it up as well?
I get anywhere between 15-18, but I live the #stocklife.

I get about 10-11 pulling my bass boat. Again I'm stock suspension on 275/70/18 stock wheels

 

What rear gears dud your Bummer have in the back? 6.0 vs 5.7 isn't a huge displacement difference.

 

The previous owner bought it brand-new he said his always gotten terrible gas mileage. He never really touched it. He bought it from Toyota with the lift and everything brand new

Yea like the last 2 years of production the majority had the 6.0. 2008-2009 had 6.2 2009 last year of the fake Hummer.

Hummers had 4:11's it had a 6.2. I'm just arguing physics. We have a Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum. It is bigger heavier and more powerful than this truck. I can get 20 miles per gallon on the highway with a 6.2 liter V8 and it gets around 13.5 around town. My argument is my truck will not get better than about 11 mpg the highway. That's not right. And if it was a hot rod I would see it. That Escalade will run off and hide from this truck as far as power. I really like the truck I just truly believe there's something wrong. I'm heading to buy a programmer right now

 

Is your Escalade the newer models with cylinder deactivation?

 

I don’t know if a programmer is going to take care of the FFV issue if there is one. I think that’s a completely different issue than the tune.

 

Yes sir. I agree with that. I guess I'm just a little disappointed everybody brags about how great Toyota is. I've had several Lexus cars and I love them. I'm just very disappointed in the quality in the build of this truck I guess. To me it feels cheap. But I will say this. the two best looking lifted trucks out there in my opinion are a Dodge Mega Cab 3/4 ton and the Toyota Tundra Crewmax. I've always liked the look of Crewmax lifted. I do not like the new body style Tundra I just can't stand it. But we'll see what a programmer does. I'm going to go to 37 tires pretty soon, so I'll probably go down about 8 miles a gallon. And still wonder why.
