Hey everyone, I purchased a set of supposedly "takeoffs" TSS silver wheels on 285/55r20 KO2s on eBay. The wheel (only one received thus far) has dirt on it, hub is scratched in a few places and chip around bolt hole. Items were described as new:mad: Ad pictures show an immaculate wheel. I spoke with eBay, they said the seller will have to pay the $300 return shipping if we can't work it out, even though his ad said returns were paid by buyer. Seller also said he couldn't replace them because he didn't have any better ones. I said you have 4 more auctions with the same wheels, he replied "nope, I'll have to take those down"

FYI I'm still in the market for these wheels, if anyone has or knows someone thats wants to sell please let me know.

    Thanks

Chip around bolt hole. I know it's not big, but not what I thought I was buying. You can also see the dirt in the corners of the hub cap.

A few scratches on the hub cap. Definitely cannot call these "takeoffs" right?

To me it's not a big deal. Those scratches and chip can be from one install/takeoff if the guy wasn't careful with the impact or how the caps were placed. I'd work out a discounted deal vs the seller paying $300 for return delivery..

If they came off a TSS model, they are technically "takeoffs" even if the truck has 200K on it. While you might have assumed "takeoffs" means something close to "new" condition, that's not necessarily what it means.

That said, if you aren't happy send them back. eGay is totally geared towards the buyer and couldn't care less about the seller. They will take your side no matter what. You could send him back a box of sand but as long as you can show you shipped him a box and he got it (via delivery confirmation) they will issue you a refund. One of the many reasons I would never sell anything on ebay.

The pictures in the ad had the wheels off the truck, ready for sale in which the wheels look NEW. Clean, no grime in the corners, no chips or scratches. The issue here is it's totally false advertising. Quote in the ad... "Brand new takeoffs". Surprised the first 2 responses here are critical of my opinion on what is considered "new" and "takeoff" lol. I didn't put this up to bitch, it's more of a consumer awareness thread.

1st - lighten up Francis, no one is being critical of you ;-)

2nd In your original post, you said nothing about "brand new takeoffs" you just said takeoff's and all I was saying is that doesn't necessarily mean brand new but if the ad stated brand new then you have a point.

3rd "consumer awareness thread"? What that some sellers on ebay aren't completely honest? Thanks for the news flash

well then if it's new it should be new and that doesn't look new to me. I can understand your frustration.

New is new. I would want a refund or 4 new wheels.

Isn't "new takeoffs" an oxymoron? :D

Sorry to hear about your issue.

There is no such thing as "new takeoffs" though.

Tires were mounted/dismounted, the wheels were balanced, lugs were installed/removed.

Not trying to be inconsiderate, I did just wake up from anesthesia a little while ago, but I think some light scratches are to be expected.

If he posted pictures of different wheels, that is clearly wrong.

I don't think the seller should have listed them as "new".

If you want perfect wheels, you need to spend the money on actual new wheels. I had mine powdercoated a few months ago and when they mounted the tires they made light surface scratches. I am OCD but it has to be expected.

Truthfully if you pay anyone to rotate your tires the tech will scratch the wheels somehow.

Especially if you go to Disount Tire. I have yet to purchase a set of wheels or tires where they did not cause damage to the wheel. The same reason I will no longer make another purchase from them again.
If the condition says "New" it doesn't always necessarily mean brand new on eBay. Just that they are "like" new. When making that kind of purchase I would always suggest contacting the seller and asking for more detailed photos just so you can get a more accurate idea of what it is you're buying and also as a paper trail if the wheels that show up are not what they were supposed to be. Like other posters mentioned, you can expect some slight imperfections on take-offs usually caused by the mounting and dismounting of the wheel. If the only damage is what you showed I would work on a discounted price rather than go thru the headache of shipping them back etc.

You bring up a good point. OP, if you receive all 4 wheels, what about having the seller refund you some money for a powder coat? That way they’ll be about new, you could change the color if wanted, and you’ll have the wheels you want.

Why anybody buys factory offset wheels I have no idea. Could get some Fuels, Methods, etc for just a smidge more usually

Good points. I really like the silver color of the TSS wheel which I cannot find in a set of aftermarkets therefore, I went with the TSS.
    Thanks

Always ask any questions before you buy.
But... even when I didn't ask and just went by the description, any problem even little has always been taken care of by Ebay in my experience.

I'd send it back and make the knob that listed them as new eat the $300.
