I'm in the process of putting a better lift on my truck. Currently have two inch spacers on top of the factory trd coilovers. Got the bilstein 6112 set up today on the top setting. I'll be installing them in the next couple days. I've got two diff drop kits. One has smaller billet spacers and slightly thinner bolts. The other has factory diameter bolts and larger spacers, but they are cheap plastic. Should I use either or find a better kit? On the rear I've got the 5160, put them on Sat and they are awesome. I've got Toytec shackles set at 1.5" lift. How much do I need to drop the carrier bearing? Amado

Why not use the billet spacers with the beefier bolts? (some drilling may be required). That said most of the "plastic" spacers I've seen are more than sufficient. For 1 ½ rear lift, you probably wan't about ¾ inch bearing drop spacers.

I'm thinking about drilling out the hole in the billet spacers. Seems like it would be a pain in the ass to hold them, even in a vice. They're not very big around either, they look small. I think I'll try running the plastic ones for a while and see how they hold up. I was thinking 3/4 would be about right for the carrier bearing. Thanks

Is carrier bearing and differential drop the same thing?

No, diff drop is front, carrier bearing drop is for the center driveshaft support to the rear end.

Coachbuilder made me aware of this product so I'll be purchasing from him. I have some vibration when I'm coming to a stop. Think this will help with that or will it likely only help for acceleration vibration?

The carrier bearing drop is just a spacer. I bought a 3/4" spacer from the hardware store for $2 and re-used the same bolt. IMG_1657.jpg

My Tundra already had a diff drop. I could have purchased the same parts at ACE for maybe $10 instead of $30. (Don't pay more than $30 by the way) I have zero vibs with almost 3" OME lift in front and AAL + ToyTec shackles in rear FYI.

What are the dimensions. I was going to pay $25 for coach builders shipped but 5-10 sound smuch. Better local orange place has spacers for $.97 if under 3/4" are the stock bolts long enough ?

No problem thank you I'll remove one and measure and reinstall so I can have the right inner diameter.

I highly recommend you actual measure and determine if you need a CB drop and how long rather than just assuming. It takes 5 minutes with an angle finder. The other thing to keep in mind with a CB drop, is while you might be getting the second two u-joints properly phased, but the lower you drop the CB, the more out of spec you put the u-joint on the xfer case flange.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1m-Fh5kiRU&sns=em

Also diff drops don't do anything on second/third gen except move the oil away from the pinion bearing. Seriously, it does nothing. Your cv angles are the same with and without the drop.

I had never heard of a Carrier Bearing before yesterday. My wife had her '16 Tacoma lifted at the dealership when she bought it and apparently they didn't adjust the carrier bearing and it started making a noise when she'd accelerate from a complete stop. They "fixed" it and so far today it hasn't done it.

Yep mine made a bad vibration and noise at start and stop. Almost felt like warped rotors. I knew it wasn't that, but that's what it felt like prior to the carrier bearing drop.

Might the smaller billet spacers be for the skid plate? Last diff drop that I installed also came with spacers to lower the skid plate. Just a thought

No, the ones for the skid plate are way smaller. I picked up a good one from Toytec. Installed it several months ago, no issues.

Do you know what size drop you have. I see 3/4 or 1 1/4 seem to be the average. I have the oem lift with 34’s so about 4” I’d lift I’m thinking going with the 3/4

Most diff drops kits are the same as far as drop. Maybe 1".

Interesting point! I always thought the diff drop moved the entire thing down an inch or so. Is that not how they work?

    Got some pics anyone?

    Im working on it!

I'm going back over all my previous research and wanted see if there has been any consensus on this topic.

Im going with the top setting on the 6112s and 1.5" Toytec shackles and want to be sure if I need these or not.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't recommend any cb drop, it will damage something at the trans case, you also will never get rid of any vibration completely.....you might find a happy medium but it will never disappear.
