Now that I'm leveled with 295/70/18's... need advice

I'm loving the way my truck looks but I have some questions since I'll be taking a trip next month.

How do you guys handle changing a flat tire? I haven't tried the OEM jack (widow maker) but I'm assuming its not tall enough to lift the truck off the ground? Should I be looking for a wooden block to use?

I also have a stock spare tire? Should I buy a 295/70 to put on my spare? Will it fit in the wheel well?
I'm thinking I might have clearance issues on the front but could throw in a spacer I suppose?

    Any suggestion/advice is welcome!!

You should get the correct size spare. From what I’ve read a 35 inch tire will fit. You may just have to cut or remove the wheel alignment pieces under the bed. Unsure about the Jack but having a block of wood to compensate wouldn’t be a bad idea.

All of this yes. Some 4x4s and/or 2x4s can be some of the best tools

What level did you go with? I am actually looking at doing this setup as well but with an add-a-leaf to keep some rake. Curious how you like your setup.

For the jacks, this might be over kill but I also carry two bottle jacks with 2 4x4 pieces that are about 2' long. They rest on the frame pretty well. And a floor jack.

A Hi Lift jack is nice if you off road your truck. A used tire from CL can make a good spare if you can find one.

Also check different tire shops. The will resell takeoffs that are safe to be used still.

I have a similar setup as you and actually had a blow out on the rear passenger tire. I only had the factory spare and factory jack. Even with that combination I barely had enough in the jack to get the factory tire on. Definitely go with a matching spare and and it'll fit underneath. I trimmed the alignment braces or whatever they are called. I also keep a 3 stack of 2x6 in the bed at all times.

I was thinking more along the lines of a piece of 2 x 6 to place the jack on top of.

I also need to get a jack extension for my 3 ton jack in the garage as it barely lifts my truck high enough to rotate the tires.

Where do you place the highlift Jack when you jack your truck up? It always looks like they would end up bashing into the paint of the truck.

I use my sliders or my bumper, of course one wouldn't want to lift with an OEM bumper.
Now that you mention it, I'm not 100% sure it'll work on a non modified Tundra.

That’s bad ass! I’ve seen those before. I would assume that’s more for getting yourself out of a tight spot? Jack the truck up, stuff some rocks underneath the tire and move on?

I have had this set up for a while and have used it several times. I'm not sure how it would help changing a tire unless you had a jack stand but for getting unstuck IT ROCKS. Compress instead of droop the suspension, throw some junk under the wheel and off you go.

Funny. I have same lift and tires. I just yesterday helped my buddy jack up his tacoma. His jack is horrible. I go to grab mine. And it’s the same damn thing. Widow maker is right. I was thinking if I got a flat I’d be in trouble. Maybe take 2x6 cut out 1/2” with dremel the size of square for bottom. And maybe a circle for the top. And keep those 2 -4 small chunks of 2x6 under seat or behind until I get a hi lift jack

I have steel bumper and recovery hook in rear could just jack up front or back with it.

I have a 2.5 ton floor jack and a piece of 4x4 in my toolbox for this reason, along with a 5 ton bottle jack as well. There are guys that’ve fit 35’s in the stock location, just have to trim the hangers from what it seems like.

Great stuff guys!! I really appreciate the advice and help!!

I love my setup! I went with:
    - 6112's up front 2.5" setting
    - Toytec Boss Rear Shocks
    - Toytec Rear Shackles (middle hole)

The only thing I want to change is add a half inch spacer on the driver side front to account for lean. Other than that I'm happy! I just don't feel like wrestling the suspension or getting another alignment right now

Thanks! How do you like the rear setup? I am debating between shackles, an add-a-leaf, or a heavy duty leaf pack. I carry around 400-700lbs in the bed everyday so, trying to get the right setup for me.

Another thing to think about is your lugnuts. If you’re using aftermarket lugnuts with your new Method wheels, are they compatible with your OEM steel spare wheel?

I would probably second the AAL setup if your carrying around the much weight consistantly.

    Great point!!

Do you have any issues with scratching the matching spare wheel under the bed of the truck?

Will that squeeze in behind the seat where the currect jack is?

@JMB I will confirm tonight or tomorrow :) just got it last night. Looks well made.
it won't fit in the stock location because of the wider base but I think it should fit behind the seat (crewmax here)

Thanks, I'll just toss the original if that one can tuck in back there (DC for me). I'll get extra room by tossing the piece of 4x4 that's also back there now.

I keep a tall bottle jack, a tall jack stand, 2 rubber chocks, pieces of wood, and an old air compressor in the bed; a breaker bar and cheap torque wrench set at 0 behind the back seat; and lugs for the stock spare, key for my Method lugs, and the necessary sockets in a ziplock in the glovebox.

If you’re buying some of that stuff new, do a test run to make sure it’s all tall enough.

Oh, I forgot, I’m lazy so I have one my cordless drills with a socket head in a tool bag that has basic tools in it too. I’m sure you can get away with less. Periodically make sure all 5 tires are at the correct PSI. Actually just rotated them yesterday.
