So initially I want to dechrome my front bumper ends and rear bumper.
Truck is black on black and my question is: have any of you done an at home bed line job on those pieces?
    Would it look terrible?

Reason being is it would be a lot cheaper to do it this way

I've never done it but a friend did the home job on his truck bed....I'm curious too

I just had my front & rear bumpers (chrome pieces) as well as Grille surround at a local body shop in my town. Very reasonable (425.00 total) and it turned out great!

I used herculiner on my rear caps as well as my bed. It’s been about a year and a half and it’s not holding up. Not happy with it, but when I get the ambition I’ll soak it in xylene and wrap it.

    Looks good on yours.
Still kind of leaves me wondering about the 2 different blacks going together or not. Shiny vs matte haha

Good point. I seen it on a dark grey Tundra at the dealership and it looked good. I personally believe that if you are getting rid of all the chrome (emblems/badges, and wheels), it will look good. A nice contrast.

I'll snap a picture later. Everytime I wash my truck, it's like the herculiner fades away. More and more chrome is poking through.

I personally love the matte emblems and flares on shiny black paint. I'd bet the matte bumpers would look good also.

I did my factory chrome tube steps with Home Depot spray on liner and I'm having the same problem as Matt. The liner is chipping and more chrome comes through with every wash.. only been a couple months. I've been wanting some N-Fabs anyway, so I guess now I have an excuse to get them :D

I had my fender flares sprayed at the lineX place and they turned out good. Fixing to do the bumper ends to match.

I used Valspar's bedliner in a can stuff for my front bumper ends. Turned out fine, but took a long time to really harden.

The powder coat place I checked wanted me to remove them. The line-x place did not. I ended up going with vinyl wrap. It was cheaper and they did not need to remove them.

I actually didn't do any wrapping when I got my truck. The wheels were the first thing I ever did but it was more because I made a template and diecut it from a machine. I didn't even know what wraps were at that point. Lets just say my world is completely upside down from where I was then.

I wanna do my end caps and my grill/hood bulge.....the prices I've been quotes are as much as getting the bed done...and I'm doing all the work of pulling the parts off

Maybe we could get both of our end caps and grill/bulge done for the same price if we go in together on it

Wonder how it would have turned out if they were sanded first...
Would that be more work than I’m estimating?

I've had good luck with Rustoleum spray on bed liner. But only Rustoleum.

I've used duplicolor and herculiner in the last 10 years. Disappointed both times. Both took what seemed like months to harden to a durable finish, but then they weren't durable at all. Used one to do my stock bumpers on an old ram and the other to do a bed on an older ranger.

I've used the rustoleum bed liner on everything except a bed. I did my front and rear tube bumpers on my 4runner, a set of wheels on my F250, a set of wheels on my ridgeline, body line down on my 86 pickup, and so many other small projects I've lost track. Acetone, sand, acetone, and then spray 5-6 lighter coats. Not super light, but don't pile it on. I've never been disappointed by this product.

Based on what you want to do, I would pull everything off the truck and spray on a drop cloth in my garage. If someone told you they're going to spray everything on the truck I'd be worried about tape lines, I'm OCD with that kind of stuff.

I actually did my front bumper ( aftermarket), grill and budge with plastic-dip almost two years ago on grill and bulge and about 6 months ago on bumper and both still look really good.

I would love to do a ranch hand but won’t be able to do that for a long time.
I figure I could spend $40 on bed liner and do it myself and I wouldn’t be out much

Plasti-dip is also a great option if you wanted to go that direction. I've had it hold up well and I've also had it peel. It does fine with regular wear/tear, but does not hold up to actual abrasion (trailside sticks, trees, rocks...). It can be easily touched up, but so can bed liner.

Again this depends on prep. But the whole idea of plasti-dip is that it is removable. So if you sand (even lightly) and then clean the surface well, this stuffs not coming off, at least not easily or in whole pieces.

So I’m pretty sure I have the plastidip on the emblems. Is this an equivalent price to bed liner from say Lowe’s?
I do like the smoother finish compared to a rougher bed liner
