It mostly sucks no matter what. I spent a couple months screwing around with mine, used the parking brake every time I stopped. It would hold well for about a week and then need adjusted again. I've pretty much given up on it.

It’s the star adjuster you get to through the slit on the back of the drum assembly. Circled in red:

You need to adjust them as the shoes wear over the years.

I did a quick loop in the neighborhood. Honestly can’t tell a difference from before. Maybe a little better but it could be my mind.

Raise the adjustment some more. Your new leafs lifted your rear 2” or 2 1/2”? Maybe you need to max it out? The Staff guy here (again can’t find the thread) said there are even extensions that can be bought for that adjust for guys with lift.

Mine has no lift and my adjustment went up 3/4”. Your lift is 2”plus? You adjusted about an 1”. Maybe you need more? I’m learning this as we go.

Nice and clean drum man. Mine looked like Pops coal miner black lung. I think mine are working great now. The drums feel warmer than normal now. Almost equal in heat to the front rotors.

I’ll keep this adjustment in mind. Thank you.

Yeah you might be right. I’ll move it up to the top and see how that helps.

If you find that thread by chance, post a link! Haha

    Thanks for the help!

That was right after replacing all the hardware, it’s definitely not that clean anymore.

That’s your load sensing proportioning and bypass valve. It alters front and rear braking bias according to the weight in the back.

It seems as if the bed height affects it. Therefore, lifts and suspension changes helping weight droop would negate its purpose. Thanks for the info!

Absolutely. I’ve never dealt with this LSP&BV before so I need to do more research. I do remember reading about an extension for lifted rear ends, as you mentioned before.

Shouldn't be anything hard to source, a coupler and a piece of all thread would do it.

Yep. Just jump over the coupler and keep going higher.

This oem set up has me perplexed a bit. Looks like its tied into where the brake lines meet?

Got my roof rack brackets mounted so now I can safely haul a 14’ boat on my roof (some of the rural rivers and lakes are hard to get a trailer into).717F1484-712F-47AC-988E-C93B00C87AAA.jpg

Knock on wood, I think I stopped that infernal rattle. It seems that when I replaced my exhaust and reused the clamp, tight wasn't tight enough. $12 and a new clamp seems to have solved it.

Amazed on the Load Sensor Proportioning Valve adjustment results.

Truck is stopping better. The adjustment is highly noticeable on the last 30-40 feet coming up to the stop. Before it was like a slight tilt forward coming to stop. Now its a squatty stop thats solid. Stoked!

The 02’ is fully optimized mechanically now on all fronts. Reinvestment stage is over outside of fluid changes which will be done on shorter intervals than normal. Time to milk it for a couple more years.

Those clamps just don’t seem right. Such a small clamping surface on them. Was looking at them at the auto store and they just seem lacking. Gotta be a better design.

Me too. I took it for a test drive and let things heat up pretty well and it wasn't moving or rattling at all. That's a good start.

You'd think so. The only other clamp NAPA's computer has for these trucks is the U-bolt ones and there's no way those will work. I showed him a pic of the one I have now and he agreed he had no idea why the u-bolt style are listed. There's no way for them to work.

When comes time (soon probably as mine has a hole in the side) I have this two part epoxy that has a high temperature rating that I may use in conjunction with those slip joints up at auto store. The slip joints have at least 3” on either side. It just needs welding (I don’t have one) or some adhesive.

Anyone use an adhesive to bond these pipe joints? Or is it better to have someone weld it?

I'd get it welded if I was concerned with it, even high temp epoxy would break down.

I wouldn't worry about it though once the pipes heat together a few times they aren't coming apart easily. Exhaust is one of the things I'll let somebody else do because it's a pain in the ass.

I think that's the next thing I'm going to mess with. It really feels like my truck is stopping very nose heavy if that makes any sense.

Still not great. Going to make a 3” bracket or so to lift it up even higher to compensate for the increased ride height. Hopefully it helps

Exact same thing here. I even had the abs go off in the front coming to a stop on a wet road.

Do you have any lift in the rear?
