Be honest now, how will I make out this winter in the “frozen zone” with my stock Michelin tires?
My 4x4 will have around 10k miles on it by the time it gets really bad.
    It’s got these tires.

They suck unless you sipe the lugs. When I get back out to my truck from shopping hell, I’ll snap a pic.

Most tire sales has a siping machine, and it costs ~12-15.00 per tire.

You can buy a tire grooving tool and do it manually, but that’s a metric buttload of work. I have one, and you need to be really careful on how deep you go with the blades and for obvious reasons, the 250-300 degree tire iron.

Just another FYI, it takes a few miles for siping to open up like my tires. Around 5k pavement miles.

They're fine but will be much much better if you do what Chris suggests, siping is the key to snow tires, so it asap before the snow flies too. Will be well worth the minimal investment, those tries should last 40k miles or more.
