Haven’t torn a rotator cuff but I had a frozen shoulder caused by two large bone spurs that required surgery. PT for that revealed a problem on the other side resulting in another surgery, both arms pretty much useless for over a year. I played Golf for the first time in 6 years over the weekend, pain free swings but my muscle memory was almost non-existent

Tore mine throwing too hard without warming up. Recovery depends on how bad it's torn. Mine was more frayed than torn all the way through and I had bursitis built up over the years as well. Had surgery last October and was throwing a softball gently the next week. Dr said do what I can until the pain says thats enough. Well I have a high tolerance for pain and Dr said exercise is best for keeping it loose. I'll be 48 tomorrow and am back slinging from third base like I was in college.

You asked about how those with operations felt now. I had a labrum tear repaired 12 years ago. Although the rehab for mine took quite a while (was about 7 months before I was out rock climbing again), it feels better and stronger than the other one does to this day. Agree with the others - don't wait.

This may sound silly but I was having shoulder problems. Doctor immediately diagnosed as torn rotor, gave me some norco and suggested mri. I said I'll wait. Went and saw a deep tissue therapist and got a massage. Followed up with ice, anti inflammatory meds, lots of shoulder rolls with and without some 2 pound dumb bells, and plenty of stretching.

There's a small muscle that travels through an opening in a bone I guess. When it gets inflamed it's agonizing. Can't raise your arm up, can't lay on your side. Certain movements stop you dead in your tracks. When mine acts up sometimes I have pain in my elbow, sometimes in my wrist. Tingling in pinky and ring finger. A good massage always gets me back on track.

I've become leery of doctors who go right for surgery and MRIs don't always tell you everything. My wife went through that with her knee. She was an avid runner, got surgery, no more running. I tend to go for the least invasive method first.

I hope your mri comes back good.

No rotator cuff but 10 months out from my second shoulder surgery. Best advice I can give is get it done and start the recovery, it’s not gonna fix itself. Also make sure you have a recliner to sleep in, the sling they put you in makes it hard to sleep any other way. I had orthoscopic labrum repair the first time then re tore and had an open latarjet this time. The open surgery was much more intense.

Best advice so far. Always lie about embarrassing injuries.

6 years ago I got drunk and tried to relive my youth skateboarding down a hill. Got the wobbles and did a superman style exit, tore up each arm, each knee and cracked a few ribs. At work my story was I tried to save a horse from the LA river and got dragged. Story version #2 was "first rule in fight club is dont talk about fight club".

All jokes aside take it seriously. The inconvenience doesn't outweigh the potential long term damage.

Rotor cuff or rotator cuff? I thought it was something relevant to the rotors when I checked this thread earlier, but thought that was a part I wasn't familiar with.

Last time I pulled mine it was 9 months that I couldn't do any weight lifting. I was younger and just let it recover by itself.

I tore mine 8 years ago. Still acts up every now and again. I fear I’ll have pain in it all my life from now on.

Due to my hyperbaric glass camber and its associated weight, my shoulder experienced problems as well. Weekly massages with the proper person like my girl fixed it. One time my shoulder was locking up due to over use and favoring the proper movements which shifted the muscles around. Woke up one morning with my shoulder locked up against my ear.

She said she could feel one of the muscle bands had popped over onto the other side. Took her 3-4 weeks of once a week massages to break it up and work that band over the shoulder into its proper spot.

Went to doctors and they said operate. Decided to give massage a try. Glad for it!
