About to trade in my 2018 Tacoma

2018 trd offroad dcsb. Its an amazing truck but i just need more room. The dealer i got it from is willing to trade me for a brand new 2018 sr5 plus double cab regular box 4x4 tundra in MGM and only increase my payments by 40$ a month. Its a hit but i deserve it. What do you think?
I've had the Tacoma since Feb and it has 4900km on it (Canada)
I'm going in on Friday to get to business with the salesperson.

 

This is why I tried one on for size to start with. You'll enjoy the room and the truck!

Just to let you know MGM is the slowest color.

 

I'm 34 and life is changing very fast. The Tacoma is my dream truck and i always wanted that model. The house renovations are never ending and a 5foot box doesn't cut it lol! Also planning on starting a family and heard carseats are a tight fit in the Tacoma. Theres also a boat in the near future... You get the picture haha.

Totally deserve the 3800$ hit

 

Luckily for October they have 8k off 2018 models too which helps

 

Chalk it up to a lesson learned, and be glad you bought a Tacoma the first time. You could be tryin to dump an ‘18 F150. You’d probably have to take a $10,000 bath to make that work!

 

I get you, I traded in my TRD Pro 4 Runner. 4Runner was great, but it was a bit small. In the end, I got what I wanted and I have a lot more versatility in what I can haul, tow, and carry. Also, kids have more room in the back seat.

I have a feeling you'll take another hit in a few years when the family starts. Crewmax is nicer for that, but you lose some bed space obviously. The DC still is better than a DC Tacoma though.

 

You'll forget about the $40/month in a couple months and will still be stoked you have a tundra instead of a tacoma. I had the 5' bed before my tundra and I can never go back. You'll find there are many people here who came from a tacoma because they wanted larger bed and engine. Welcome to the forum!

Family is in the picture get a crewmax. Yes the bed is only 5.5 but the interior room you will have for ur baby’s car seats and misc stuff you need for them will pay off itself


Forgot to add: I have 3 kids and my first crewmax was an 08 , first kid was born in 2011. I couldn’t be happier with me getting a crewmax. First car seat was a big ol recaro seat for him and boy plenty of room

 

You hit the nail on the head, car seats are a bitch in a Tacoma, especially rear facing ones. Best decision i ever made was go from a Tacoma to a Tundra Crewmax. You will not regret it. I love Tacomas too, but they are too small for families with active kids/dogs or for people who have to haul alot. I say go for the Tundra.

 

Welcome!!! $40 a month isn't too bad of a hit, at least you aren't trying to unload something like an almost new Dodge Ram or Nissan truck, then you'd really take a beating. Just eat out one less day a month, bam at least $40 right there.

 

Get a crewman and have the dealer throw in a bed extender. Problem solved.

 

DC will have plenty of room. When kids get a lot bigger you can get the CM. I would have a DC if it had the power rear window. Even though I rarely have passengers the space in the CM is nice. You might at least ask about difference in price. When I got mine the rebate on the CM was higher and there are more on lots. Unless the dealer is just wanting to unload the DC you may be able to pick up the CM for not much more.

Welcome! I just went from an 07 doublecab Tacoma to a 2018 Tundra Crewmax. I looked at the doublecab Tundra just to see how it compared with the Tacoma, and while it is a wider vehicle, there wasn’t a lot of leg room back there. Car seats take up tons of room, and kids love to kick the back of seats if they can. I’d go Crewmax but get what you want. Towing is great with the Tundra. I got by for years towing my boat with the Tacoma (~5500 lb weight with the dual axle trailer), but was blown away by the Tundra the first time I hitched up. If you haven’t towed with the Tacoma, rest assured that the Tundra is in a different league.

 

Do it....i did the same thing. 3 weeks with a Tacoma limited, back to the dealer for a full size trunda..

 

8k is only if you're paying cash. Fact you mentioned per month means you're financing? There is only 1k incentive if you finance through Toyota. If you're doing your own financing then yes the 8k will apply and whatever else dealer will knock off, around $2500 should easily be doable for total discount over 10 grand.

The double cab SR5 plus 4.6L is much cheaper than your OR Tacoma with that big incentive though. You must be taking a big hit on the trade in. Tacomas are very popular in Canada. Is there any way you could sell it yourself and not take such a big hit on it? The last point I will make is the double cab. You want the crewmax when kids are small as their seats are a big pain. I have 3 kids and have had both Crewmax Tundra and double cab tacoma. The double cab Tundra is wider yes, but still very tight with big kid seats in the back.

 

Get a Crewmax if you’re having kids. The interior space is worth it. There’s no chance my son can touch the front seats and adults appreciate the leg room. If you’re worried about the bed size, a 5x8 utility trailer solves that problem. I picked one up for $800.

 

My girl has an 18 TRD Pro. Nice little truck. But every time I drive it it reminds me how much better it is having a Tundra for myself. Ride is smoother, faster, way more room, better looking and just manlier

 

Another vote for the CrewMax here. You’ll be pleased, and eager to have people sit back there. It really is limo-like.

It also makes a great “road office” if you ever need to work remotely or while on the road.

A trailer or bed extender will get you over the times you need a full size bed.
