I plan on wrapping my steering wheel trim pcs and center console very soon. I will also be taking apart my front dash to paint the AC vents black before I install my carbon fiber trim rings. Photo below was posted by someone else on here before. 18A959E0-83C6-4B90-B01A-4C51C13C163F.jpg

on the other hand, if the air bag deploys and through some random chance the emblem goes flying, you prob have other things to worry about. i wish the steering wheel emblem wasnt chrome too...

Does the cup holder chrome piece just pry off without removing the entire console area? Or did you just tape off and do it in place? Thanks

It comes right off. Start at top by dash area with flat head screwdriver or scraper, lift and you'll see tabs on the sides. I didn't need to press in or anything just lift up and comes out.

Yep it just pops right off, easiest piece. The faux brushed aluminum plastic piece around the shift area is attached and you’ll need to pull that whole piece off. You can then break the little plastic welds if you want to take it off. I was lazy and just taped around it. I did clip off the plastic welds holding that little chrome bezel piece on, in order to paint that separately.

Really need to get around to painting the chrome that's left in my truck. Would like to do the steering wheel controls as well. Hopefully this weekend.

After removing the center trim around the shifter you can drill out the back plastic rivets. Then you can prime and paint the chrome trim around the shifter. You will need to epoxy it back in place after it’s painted. I decided to paint my chrome trim a blue accent color and wrap my other trim pieces. 6983EA4C-B3B8-4D0B-B423-02822C8850F3.jpg B56DC81B-C8C9-45D1-9C58-B694E780A7B4.jpg

That came out great. I think wrapping is the right way to go. This location is prone to dropping stuff / getting scuffed, phone, coffee mug keys. I don’t think paint is going to hold up long term. The wrap will take the abuse. I want to do this. Yours looks great.

The wrap is only $10-$20 in materials. You will want a heat gun to help stretch the corner. I would highly recommend a vinyl tool kit. They sell on Amazon for $10 give or take. The hardest part is working your inside corners. I watched a bunch of how how to install vinyl videos before I started my install. I’m going to do the steering wheel trims soon to match my center stereo moldings.

A steady hand, skinny artist type paint brush, and maybe plasti-dip hand painted on it? I've been thinking about doing it too. Hell, they even have vinyl wrap in a can. Surely O'Reilly auto parts or Ace Hardware has a solution. Maybe look at brushing on some Flex Seal? Plastidip?

I tried gloss rustoleum peelable paint and it didnt work well. I just masked off the badge and sprayed it. I ended up peeling it off. Was easy enough that I'll end up doing it over with plastidip. I used the same stuff on my platinum badge on the door and that looks like crap now too. I'll stick with plastidip from now on.
