Hey guys, this is going to be my first post on here.
I posted a teaser video on my instagram and I've had a lot of people ask for a more detailed listing of what I did.

please enjoy and ask questions if you want. ill try to answer what I can. (THIS IS A 5.5FT BED)

okay so to start. I really wanted to utilize the bed space I had for over landing, but I also really wanted to keep the bed floorspace for when I use my truck as a truck and need to haul. this is the finished product.
    IMG_7947.jpgIMG_7948.jpg
as you can see I have matrax to the left, rotopax to the cab, water port also to the cab, axe, fire extinguisher and shovel to right. with room to spare for the amp research bed extender and it all fits nice and compact under a bakflip mx4. (ALL PARTS I USED WILL BE POSTED WITH LINKS AT END)

so to start I took 1/4 steel that I found 4' of at Home Depot for super cheap. I cut it to the side I needed, heated up where I needed and smacked it with a hammer. punched big enough holes in it and it bolted straight up to the bed rail. When building one, do not use the plastic T-nuts, they will break. Use the ones that are solid metal in the links below. have no had a issue so far. from there I painted them black and put the matrix pins in. please see pictures.
    IMG_7910.jpgIMG_7911.jpgIMG_7912.jpgIMG_7914.jpgIMG_7929.jpgIMG_7930.jpg

I some how broke on of the maxtraxs pins, but contacted their customer service and they are sending me a new one. tango_face_smile_2a1b533f8290f43de99b8c49ba3151851b6361f8.png
also, if you are using a bed extender and these maxtrax, its very tight. im talking stupid tight. you have to run the maxtrax all the way to the cab and you have just enough room to clear the extender folding in and out. if you don't have a extender you can mount these where ever.
you can see the spacing below.
    IMG_7946.jpg

so from here, since the bed extender was pushing the maxtrax to the cab, I had to move the rotopax to the right so I could push the maxtrax all the way to the cab. to do this I used the maxtrax mounting system for Toyotas. I recommend not spending the money and just building some out of 1/4 steel or 3/8 steel. because since I had the bedcover, I had to punch holes through those nice mounts they supplied to move them low enough so the cover would close.
    see attached.
    IMG_7931.jpgIMG_7932.jpg

    with the rotopax on
    IMG_7937.jpg

now, remember when I said everything was tight. well the rotopax have to be pushed perfectly spaced from the maxtrax so you can get them off. you need them spaced well to fit the water port in next. please see spacing below. I could have gotten away with maybe an inch of space. but I wanted more room for the water port.
    IMG_7944.jpgIMG_7943.jpg

Now on to the waterport. this is kinda a pain. you could make your own mounts but I think you might be better off just buying the drop brakes from them and drilling like I did.
so to start. the water port could not fit with the rotopax moved to the left. so I had to bring it out about 3-4" which was no easy task. I took the regular drop bracket and drilled it out to accept a larger 5/8 lag screw from Home Depot to support the weight of the water when loaded. I had to drill some pretty sizable holes to fit the bolt through the mounts. the middle hole needs to have the bolt recessed through it. a 1 inch hole and some slight grinding on the bolt and you can hammer it through with some effort. also look at the bolts on the left and right. the bolt head had to be ground down to accept the water port to slide in and out as it was designed, because with the larger bolt it would go into the channel.
    see attached
    IMG_7934.jpgIMG_7933.jpg

you can see it over lap the rotopax and you can se the clearance between the rotopax. fits nicely and snuggly without coming in contact. you could bring it out further a little further if wanted but I wanted it all tight.
    IMG_7938.jpgIMG_7939.jpgIMG_7940.jpg

so to recap before I begin on the right side. this whole build thus far was one giant chain reaction due to the bed extender. The bed extender forced the maxtrax back to the cab which in turn made me move my rotopax to the left to make room to push them all the way to the cab which in turn made me move the water port out of the way and space it out a few inches so the rotopax could fit behind the water port. if you don't have a bed extender then you can easily mount everything pretty much wherever with both the rotopax and water port flush mounted to the cab and the maxtrax anywhere on the left bed rail.
    see attached
this is if you don't have a bed extender
    IMG_7810.jpgIMG_7916.jpgIMG_7915.jpg

okay, so moving forward, bed extender or not. the axe, shovel, and fire extingisher is straight forward. I took the same 1/4 steel and literally cut it to size. I think 9 1/2 inches in length for the axe and shovel. and 4 inches for the support bracket for the fire extinguisher.
so those 9 1/2 inch brackets will support the axe and shovel nicely. I used the muder spork from deadman off road on the outside, and a axe I got off Amazon to mount on the inside.
the axe fit perfectly with the larger classic quick fists. and the shovel fit snuggly with the mini quick fists.
the fire extinguisher could have been mounted just with the giant quick fist, but I made a support bracket to slap behind it just in case.
    IMG_7935.jpgIMG_7936.jpgIMG_7941.jpgIMG_7942.jpg

the completed product with mounts and bed cover closed

No worries, no apology necessary. Seems you like tinkering and making your own goodies, I can relate.

I know for water port at least, when mounted to the rail like that, combined with the weight when it’s filled, it flops around like fish. I would never wheel anything more than well graded fire road like that. I see u modified it, but it’s still essentially only attached to the rail. I strap it down.

Looks great! Only thing I'd change is make that fire extinguisher more accessible. If you ever need it, every second you can save is worth it. Having to open the tailgate, and then also flip up the cover will take precious seconds.

Yea I’m not sure yet, never had issues with mine how it was mounted before, and also had it on the hitch mount for a while with no issues. I did beef up the bolts holding that factory rail on though. But I guess only time will tell.

I’m going to most likely move this one back under the seat where it was originally mounted, and I’ll probably put a second one for general use under the bed cover for camping and stuff since that should already be open.

    Hi,

Great post! I'm interested in how you mounted that second set of deck rails underneath the bed cover. Any details about that would be awesome. Thanks!

Love the setup. One thing I did with the fire ext was took a piece of 1/4 in by 2 in bar stock and cut to bolt to the two front seat bolts on the passenger seat side. mounted the ext mount to it. Sits right at floor level and tucked away nice and neat.
