$80K Landcruiser VS $40K Tundra Crewmax; Worth the price difference?

Oh, and to the OP - unless your net-worth is 1MIL++, the LC is just purely a luxury and not a need. I feel a Tundra is a need, given the information you supplied. There is no reason to spend double what you already have, just for comfort. Sure the Tundra isn’t a land yacht LC, but it’s not a 1995 Ford F-150 either.

 

My sister has the newest S4 model, I’ve driven it many times. I *did* love it, but for some reason the GS350 still got me LOL.
Yea, you’re much more into the snow than I - and AWD makes sense if so.
Good news on the AWD FSport is the brakes are the same size as the Non-FSport GS350 and cost 1/4 of what the 2-pc GS350 RWD FSport’s do lol.
Otherwise - they’re all the same. And you don’t have to deal with staggered tires.
On my IS350 (RWD) I burnt through rear tires like no tomorrow, for 6 years. America’s tires were like - “oh, it’s you again”. And Lexus was like - “so, yea - you know about the rear tires again right?” lol
The GS350 does have wider meats in the rear and it’s a tad heavier, so it doesn’t toss around the corners and slide out as easy as the IS350 did. I had a few corners I’d take sideways everyday in the IS, and I almost feel bad doing that to the GS because it’s not as easy.

 

Don't know if this was mentioned yet but SUV's are not great for towing IMO because a lot of the hitch noise comes up into the cabin. Noise that you never hear when using a pickup to haul

 

Should look at the Audi S6. AWD and V8TT. Awesome car and with a tune is an absolute beast. Had a 14 S4 and with winter tires that thing was as solid as my 3rd gen 4Runner in snow, albeit much less clearance.

 

I guess that’s four of us with the tundra and IS350 combo. 2011 IS350 F sport. With all the F sport suspension and engine and exhaust parts from Lexus. Was my car till I got the Tundra. It’s the wife’s now.

While the LC is totally awesome the shorter wheelbase isn’t as good for towing. That big heavy boat might want to push you around a little bit.

 

Always wondered why the extra cost of some back seats and sound deadening in SUV’s justifies the additional $40k cost over of pickup. Really?

 

My wife bought a 2017 Sequoia in June of 2017 that inspired me to buy my 2018 Tundra in January 2018. Both 2wd and we are both totally happy with our choices.

Back on topic. Keep the Tundra. Lay down the law with the wife!

 

The land cruiser is nice, but in terms of practical usage the tundra is much more useful. You can throw whatever you want in the back without worrying about scratching the plastic/leather in the back seat. This is from someone who owns a Lexus LX570. Great to drive, but cant throw things in and carry large loads without worrying about the interior.

The LC has an 8spd auto that will be brought over to the next gen tundra. The Lexus LX also has that same 8spd

 

One of the few trucks/SUVs still built in Japan. Everything on a LC is top notch, especially fit and finish. You’re also paying for a legendary model name. For me, it offers no room, especially with the fold up seats in the rear. IMHO, it’s way too lux to be an off-roader.

both are great vehicles in their own rights, but in comparioson they are two totally different vehicles. It is an apples to oranges comparison. Now speaking as an accountant, go with the 40k Tundra. I feel I am partial since I drive a 2012 Tundra Texas Edition compared to the luxury vehicles my colleagues drive. But, mine turns heads in the parking lot.
