Your thoughts on wheel spacers?

im curious about them, I’m keeping my stock rims for awhile and was wondering if there’s any cons to some spidertrax 1.25 spacers to give it a better looking stance since these rims are so far inside the well- it just looks so narrow.

What are your guys thoughts on these? Anyone here have them?

 

I have them to prevent tire rub. If they are installed properly there is no issue. But chain tire shops will no longer work on your wheels due to liability concerns. Chain stores will tell you they are dangerous.

 

Stock rims?

 

I've been running mine for over a year now with no issues whatsoever. I was in the same boat. I have the 1.25" on my stock rims so I could move up to 295/70/18. Eventually I'll replace them with aftermarket wheels, but for now there doing there job. Perfect stick out , not to aggressive.

 

That’s perfect indeed. Good looking truck! I think I’m going to get them, coilovers and uppers take priority over rims so I’ll probably keep these stock ones for a very long time, I kinda like them anyways- but I am going +1 tire size once I wear out these factory tires

 

Been running Bora 1.25's for a few months now with no issues!

 

I've had Spider Trax 1.25" on my truck for at least 6 months now. No issues at all. Just used a little blue lock-tite when you install and double check the torque when you rotate tires.

I went with them because I like/run the TRD PRO wheels and the spacers give it a nicer stance.

I think if you go with a quality spacer and take the time to do the install right you'll be ok.

 

Yes stock rims with 295/70r18s

 

I did the exact same. Except I don't intend to replace the rims. Got the clearance for the 295s. The appearance was secondary to me, but it does look pretty good. I'll put some pictures up when my wife gets off the computer.

 

So... America's tire will work in wheels with Adapters NOT spacers. They actually installed mine for me and have been checking on them when I go in for rotations. Mine are 1.5" and aftermarket wheels +18 and 295/70/18 tires. I had lots of rubbing. CMC is the way to go if u need to chop.

 

That was my same thinking. I wanted the 6112's and rears to get it where I wanted it. The rims are not that bad to begin with and some plasta dip , works for me.

Get a quality bolt on you’ll be golden. Never had an issue. Ran them on my gtr among other cars. My buddy runs them on his Tundra 1.25’’

If you’re on a budget I think they’re the way to go. I just bought new wheels and tires tho

 

don't see the wisdom on second guessing Toyotas engineers for the sake of looking good from one angle. the look is not good from straight on though.

 

So your theory is keep it stock, no matter what? So no lifts, aftermarket parts, bigger wheels and tires because... ‘’the look is not good from straight on though’’ and you’d be ‘’second guessing Toyota engineering’’ ? GMAB

 

well tunder I was replying to OP. To be more specific wheel spacers put extra stress on wheel bearings and steering components. Beyond design parameters. So there is a very real reason to not do it.

I have 2inch spacers since 2 months, been running good.
Stock Tires, and rims

The only thing i have to do is remove the mud protectors because my wheel touches it when I turn.

 

I don't want to argue about this; just saying; the story that goes around saying that it put extra stress on the wheel bearings (when compared to aftermarket wheels) is not true at all. There is no difference between adding a 1.25" wheel spacer and getting aftermarket wheel with the same 1.25" offset or backspacing difference combination. The wheel ends up in the exact same location with the exact same stress on the bearings and steering components whether it is achieved through a spacer or a different than OEM wheel.
Just saying for the record to clear up that rumor....

 

Mine is 1.5" installed because front tires rubbed and paid $106 for 4. I am not realized that I have wheel spacer and jump the truck and go fast and its still no problem at all.

 

yep and those wider offset wheels are ALSO not good for the same reasons. no argument there at all!

The variable we don't know is designed safety factor for each of these components. There may or may not be ample design room in their numbers.

 

You put a little stress on your wheel bearings. Who cares? So you change them out at 90k instead of 100k. Is that really worth stressing over? Live a little.

 

1in Bora wheel spacers on the front only. No issues so far. I've had them on for about 13k. So far so good.

 

Just make sure they are torqued correctly, whatever the mfg states.

 

Wasn't a fan until I needed to use some for a car but just make sure you follow torque recommendations to the letter. I also wouldn't be going hard off road with them, but those with that experience can vouch for their strength better than I can.

 

1.25 spidertrax, 295s on stock steel rims. I added the spacers because that was the least expensive way to get the 295s in there, strictly because that was the tire width I wanted, appearance was secondary. But they do look pretty good.

 

I ran spacers just in the rear due to triple bypass shocks would be very close to rubbing the tire. Ran it on one trail without any issues till I bought new wheels and didn't need them.

 

1.5” with no problems. Make sure to buy quality, hub centric and thread lock/torque to spec.

 

That stance looks awesome! What lift do you have? Tires?
