Sold My 2018 Raptor for the 2019 Pro

I never said that. But, I think that the point people are attempting to make is that the Raptor was not made to "work" (i.e. haul stuff and tow stuff) like a "truck". But, the Tundra numbers for payload and towing aren't that spectacular, neither.

And the terms "envious" and "insecure" sort of point to money to me.

 

when toy puts out a factory supercharged tundra with 33 to 35 in. tires and sheetmetal bulges over the wheels on all corners, a power bulge in the hood and f/r e lockers THEN you will have a raptor competitor.

Anyways, both great trucks. Love my Tundra and absolutely love my Raptor.

Like Colorado said, it is hard to compare the two. The Raptor is a purpose built truck with nearly every feature, and about 20-30k more than even a Pro. The tundra is a fairly basic truck that looks good and does everything a basic Truck should do.

 

I'd drive it if you gave it to me but I don't see the value or quality. I also wouldn't want any "Raptor" stickers on it, the naming feels old Jurassic movie now.

 

This was the comment I was referring to. My 6.2L Raptor is a “real” truck. I can promise you that.

I think it is a general hate of Fords. I owned nothing but Ford trucks for 30 years. Some good some bad. I think Ford started going downhill in the late 1990s with the new 5.4s. I spent far too much money on my 2001 SC 4x4 before it 100k. Niece's boyfriend had a raptor when I owned my Tacoma. Also he worked for a Ford dealer. He got real defensive is sad anything negative about Fords. 2 of my brother own Fords and have forever. Youngest one said his next will probably be a Tundra. He traded his last Ford with a little over 100k on it because at what he was looking at spending to fix it. Both walked out to their trucks to find windows down when they had rolled them up. Funny thing they owned different year models and it happened within days. One brother had 2 windows do it. There is a huge Ford fan club on the Texas Fishing Forum. I like to rattle them now and then. Can't wait to see this new diesel that Ford puts in their 1/2 tons. Hopefully for the Ford boy it is better than the 6.0.

 

what gets me is the people that spend that kind of money on a truck with those capabilities and it never leaves the pavement. Same with the ones buying 4x4s. I see them all the time around DFW with chrome rims 20s and 22s and street tires or wannabe ATs. Makes no sense to me. You can lift a 2wd these days just as you can a 4x4. Back when 1/2 tons had real axles you did not see near as many 4x4s.

 

There is no point of comparing when the price difference is about 25k-30k between the two trucks. Compare Pro with a F150 Platinum.

I have a friend that had a gen 1 Raptor and had the Shelby package and it was awesome. He now has an18 Raptor and I love that one too. I’m a techy and love all the technology packed into the Raptor. I still love my Tundra and since I have changed the tires/wheels, added a S.C., new bumper, LEDs, LightBar, new Apple CarPlay complete stereo, etc my truck lines up to his and then some. I see the point that Toyota should offer a trim package with some of the stuff I did and the Raptor offers. Just look at the tires on the TRD PRO....that pretty much sums it up. I love my Tundra and wouldn’t change a thing but I do think the Raptor is nice and Toyota could take a few pointers from Ford and then enhance. My $.02.

Yep the tires are pretty lame. I have better tires, for off road that is, on my TSS Off Road. Tacoma Baja had better tires too. Now the Michelins are good tires just not aggressive enough for a 4x4 in my book. They could also be a larger size. Raptor has 35s I believe. The other area Tundras are lacking is no rear locker. I believe all the big 3 have one.

 

ATRAC with locker saved me a long walk in Tacoma once. Not sure if ATRAC would have done it by itself. Do you have to activate ATRAC when using low range in Tundra? Tacoma had a switch. Pic is after getting out of mud hole.

 

I know I still glance at Raptors every time I pass one. But the 6.2L is what does it for me, I can't get on board with the V6.
I wouldn't consider one simply because it doesn't fit my needs, not because I dislike the truck. Raptor has decreased payload and decreased tow rating.
I also think the Ford 6.2 and 5.0 are 2 of the best gas engines available.

I like the BULLITT as well. But it would be pretty unfair to compare that to my Toyota Matrix fuel saver commuter. Doesn't mean the BULLITT isn't an awesome car.

 

Just joined last night and find it sooo amusing that no matter where you there is always Truck manufacturer pissing contest on who's is better. I guess adolescence never really leaves. I've been driving pickup trucks for 44 years as my first one I bought was a '69 Datsun back in 1974 at age 16. Cycled through all the major makes and models for the most part. Toyota is definitely my favorite but would not scoff at the Fords. Lost faith in Chevy and Dodge but that's just me. I do believe the race to come to the market with cutting edge technologies and fancy accoutrements to gain market share without doing relatively extensive R&D can lead to real headaches. The diesel class motors with Ford is a perfect example. Look at how much Toyota is spending on the frame swap outs. You would NEVER EVER find a domestic manufacturer do that IMO. (space for interjection: the domestics would never need to, blah, blah, blah) The competition is brutal as the electronics on the domestic trucks just don't hold up in the mid to long term. Fuel economy is relative if your motor won't last until 200K without several serious repairs and or overhauls. Not to mention getting close to 300K with the Japanese trucks is quite common without blinking an eye. There are allows exceptions to the rule, but where the rubber meets the road for me is having enough blend of utilitarian, function, longevity and bling as an added bonus. That is where I find the Tundra fits for me. Nothing wrong with liking something else and if you're happy with what you have than that is awesome. I won't be pissing on the territorial truck manufacturer tree debate myself. I leave that for the pubescents in the crowd.

 

For some it isn't. Can't tow enough for some. Not enough payload for some. But.... increasing those numbers make other performance areas suffer.

Why not compare them? You can get a base model Tundra for under $40K. Throw another $15-25K at it (maybe more or less depending on your mechanical aptitude) and you have something that will run with a Raptor. For cheaper. It won't have power ass wipe and all the other goofy tech stuff....but it'll run with it.

 

For those that have owned both. How does the suspension/ride compare Pro to Raptor?

 

I’m about to go compare my new Toytec 3/1 on my Tundra to my Raptor as I haven’t driven it since I got the Tundra. Will update

 

You can only compare based on what comes out of the factory not what u added and build yourself. You can mod Raptor as well and it becomes a never ending competition there.
FYI. I have modded my SR5 and its faster than a Raptor and has more goodies than a Pro.

 

Disagree. The whole point of the comparison is to make/confirm the statement that the Raptor is overpriced for what it is.

 

Disagree^ with that statement as well. Clearly not overpriced for the people that buy them. Mainly overpriced for the people that can’t afford them

 

Once you start adding up mechanical and electronic gadgets to Pro, it will be the same price as Raptor.

It all comes down to whether u want a Raptor or a Pro.

 

Quit being stuck up with the “can’t afford them”


I think the point that @Atomic City Tundra is trying to make is that there are better and cheaper ways to build a long travel truck.

Now if you have the money and want a cookie cutter out of the box long travel truck, by all means get a raptor
