Newbie "will it fit" 285/75r18 duratrac

Currently have a fully stock 12' DC with duratrac 275/70r18s that will need to be replaced next year. Have a tiny rub when fully cocked on an angle.

I Don't do hardcore off roading but Have had some issues with clearance in the last couple years. Cracked gas tank skid, bent running broad brackets on both sides, dent on underside of front bumper from a rock... I guess i get a little hairy sometimes when I'm out hunting.

Im looking at the 285/75r18 duratracs because I've really liked that tire but want obviously want more clearance. Can I get by with a 2.5" 5100 with 1.5" in the rear with this tire? I'm kinda cheap and don't believe I need a high performance or high cost shock.

A local mechanic said I'll need a 3" Ome minimum, but I've seen some info on this forum that leads me to believe a cheaper 2.5" might work.

Any input on this that will help me?

Also saw this guy and he said he didn't even go to the top setting... So I don't know who to believe...but I don't know what "CB shims" are either.

 

My OME setup gets you 2.5"+ up front. I have a AAL plus ToyTec shackles out back to retain rake. If you get the DAKAR rear leaf packs you get 2.5" on the rear for level. Want rake??? Add the shackles at 1" setting.

 

Are shackles better than adding a leaf?

 

A matter of debate. Icon AAL is good. Some use a block. I have AAL and shackles. You could use shackles by themselves but better to add an AAL or block and use ToyTec shackles to maintain rake. Shackles by themselves could flatten out your leafs too much.

 

Are you running 285/75r18s?

What spring did you have 612?

 

295/70/18s...613 coil.

 

Forgot to add that I'm using stock wheels...not sure the offset works.
