2006 4.7 cranks but no spark

Brand new NGK iridium plugs about 1500-2000 miles ago. New coil packs. Full fuel tank. I'm getting fuel both ways, but no spark. Please help

 

I just hooked a code reader up and it says it's the camshaft position sensor a circuit. Could somebody tell me where this is at as I can't find a location picture/diagram

 

Drivers side on outside of the black camshaft front cover is where the connector is. Also if the crank position wires are routed wrong on the driver side lower, the serpentine belt can wear through them. Causing this exact problem

Got it fixed. Took apart the connector and sprayed electronic cleaner in both ends and she fired right up. Appreciate the help on finding the connector though!

Sometimes those pins get loose and wiggle out of the cobnecotr. Make sure they are all the way in.

 

Same problem happened again this morning when I went to leave for work. Sprayed more connector cleaner in there and it fired up after a few minutes. Thinking I'm going to go ahead and order a new sensor so I don't have this problem constantly. Anybody have a tutorial or know what it takes to change those sensor? I know it's just plug and play with a bolt or two but I cant see where it bolts up. Looks like it goes through the timing cover but again I'm not for sure cause I can't see. Any input is appreciated!

Well assuming that's the one, the removal and installation should just be one bolt and it's out. Here's what in the Chilton Manual.

 

Check the connections make sure you don't have rust or pins burnt and the connections are solid.

So to remove it all I need to do is take the skid plate off and I should be able to reach it?

They were clean the other day, I'm going to inspect them more fully tonight and clean them better.

 

Cam sensor is near the top of the engine. We already stated this I thought? Yes the black timing cover needs to come off.

 

Yeah I got confused. Does anything else need to come off to get to the sensor besides the cover?

 

It did it again as I was leaving work. Thankfully I had the can of cleaner with me and it started up after I sprayed it and it dried for a few minutes. Any body have a good place to buy this sensor and brand? Or just go with autozone/O'Reilly

 

Autozone do to warranty.. to me man the way your talking you have a bad connection either at the plug or on the sensor.

I'm going to take it off tonight and clean it thoroughly and clean out the plug real good to see if it helps any. I'm not having any problems with it running bad when I'm driving, but Im not familiar with these sensors either so I don't know the symptoms. It'll start one day and the next won't start

What I was hoping it was doing. I would say it's a bad sensor or pig tail on the sensor going out is bad.

 

Is there anything I can clean the sensor itself that won't hurt it?

 

No not really. Only other thing you can do is disconnect at the connection. Use a volt meter on ohms.. ( you have to look up the value,not near my truck) that way you can confirm the sensor is either in spec or not but you really need a lab scope to prove it better.

 

Well this was the first problem. I didn't even have to put a wrench on this to get it out. And it took only a whisk of wind to break the rest of it. I'm assuming this happened when I got the timing belt done a month ago

 

This is not good. Like lotsoftoys said could be the way the pigtail wires are routed when they did the belt. and they could be hitting belt and saw thru it.

 

You can see here they haven't been touched by the belt. I can't get the actual sensor itself out yet. Does the bolt on the other side of the sensor come out with the sensor or do I need to unscrew it as well. I can't see how it's in

 

Wires I'm talking about are the ones that go from the sensor in the pic out too the connection you have been messing with.

 

Got it all cleaned and put back in. Fired right up but that necessarily doesn't mean the problem is fixed. The sensor itself was a little dirty so I cleaned that up, soaked all 3 connector points and flushed them out. Check engine light is still on, if it does it again I'm going to go ahead and order part, I talked to autozone and they said they can have it here overnight t no extra charge.

 

On the plus side of tonight's events, there was some nice views during the sunset

 

Disconnect the battery for 10 mins to clear that code on the check engine or use a scan tool to erase it.. see what happens.
