What would it cost to convert said Tundra to 4 x 4? What would be the pros and cons doing the upgrade / swap? Or would it simply be better to trade trucks?

    Thanks in advance!

Snap off drivetrain. Put aside... Pick up and snap on your new 4x4 drivetrain. Done. Don't listen to these guys... It can be done as easy as...

LOL, sorry man. Take the advise and sell the truck. That's why you buy more truck than you would need.

Someone did an AWD conversion using Sequoia parts, but that was on a pre-2014. Very complicated and expensive but definitely interesting

If I were to ho through the added expense of converting, I’d consider a solid axle front.

Well honestly comparing these side by side and from personal experience and building use I would say the 4x4 is going to be the stronger of the 2.

I would rather be a stud as I would be a support to the rest of the structure. Plus studs get nailed the most :)

I would not like to be a post because those get kicked the most and hit by lawn mowers not cool

The title was about dimentional lumber. 4x2 refers to a vehicle with 4 wheels, 2 driven, while a 2x4 is a board.

    Yes, It’s a pet peeve. :p

Not sure how different it could be on a newer Tundra but I have seen it done on first gens a few times. The real question is, do you intend to source the parts and do the work yourself?

If the answer is no then what ColoradoTJ said sounds reasonable.

I wood not be surprised if more of you come lumbering in with more puny jokes.

I agree I would sell the 2x4 and get the 4x4 much more sturdy and can handle mother nature a lot better.

Life is to short to not have fun. As long as that fun is used in the proper manner.

If you have the knowledge, skills, tools, shop or garage, equipment, experience of Jowett, you can do it with less cost. Otherwise, it needs plenty of $$$$$ and hopefully when it's all assembled, you don't get glitches with the computer. I used to have a 4x2 Reg Cab 5.7. Now I have a 4x4 Crewmax. Don't even think about putting lsd or rear locker on the 4x2. Save your money. Get a 4x4 with AT tires.

Lots of 18s out there with so
lots of 18s out there with some nice discounts. I saw some advertised today at almost 15% off. That is a good starting point. Dealers will be hungry this week. Check CarsGuru. I saw one DC 4x4. Pick a vehicle at a dealer and send them an offer. All they can do is reject it.

If the frame is the same, it's feasible.

My next door neighbor did a 4wd conversion on his 4runner, which didn't look too horrible of a job

    Too many to list
If u can source the parts from junk truck and can do most of the things yourself then it would make sense otherwise, keep what you have....

Tundras are too big to be taken offroad unless you are off roading in desert. Tacoma leads over Tundra in off road due to the size and weight. You don't need 4x4 if you are hitting dirt roads and trails.
Don't confuse 4x4 with AWD as they are two different animals. Your truck will drive fine in snow if you have AT tires w no "Rookie Driver" bumper sticker.

I used to have Ford Crown Victoria (ex-squad car) in college which I drove everywhere even to ski resorts. It would swerve if I don't behave and hit the gas pedal too hard. It lasted forever even after I abused and continously raped it for years, talk about reliability when it comes to Ford. Real fun was driving at night where people would get of your way after seeing the headlights in the rear view mirror.

A lotsa 4x4 drivers use their 4x4 button just to recirculate air in the cabin as they never use it. I have taken Landcruiser and LandRover off roading and it hurts to get scratches no matter how safe you play. I would rather have a dedicated toy.

Get 4x4 if u have a use for it unless you are one of those guys who are like,
Better to have when not needed or not have it, blah blah, blah. I don't remember exactly how it goes

I think i have stir the pot enough, let me go get some sleep before it gets too loud in here....
