Close to downtown Los Angeles there’s a Filipino town, but I think my city of West Covina has them beat with all of us Flips living here and all the stores and restaurants!!
Mom doesn’t cook anymore, so we get food and they’re good...still not like mom’s

I lived in Van Nuys for 17 yrs. Know quite well LA's Filipino town. Used to be real decent back in the 90's. Had some friends in Montebello from PI and would take me to some good spots.

Well, let’s just say LA ain’t the way it used to be!! I work in a criminal court and I’m not sure I’d get caught walking around a lot of downtown at night. If only I could carry I can defend myself, but anyone knows how Calif is with the 2d amendment and guns

Little Tokyo should still be OK. Chinatown used to get a little iffy at night but lots of cool shops and restaurants.

Yes i work around the civic center area and i get out during lunch, walk to little tokyo and dash bus it to chinatown. The happening area for food is in the SGV, east of downtown, Alhambra, Monterey park, even rowland heights. A lot of really good asian food eats, even chefs straight from taiwan cooking authentic grub. Me, just wish mama would cook again, just to be a kid again

    1. I can cook up some great Shanghai Lumpia and goat calderata. Love Philippine style chicharon bulaklak. Pardon my spelling. I met Edu Manzano in Baguio. Had a good friend Mario Dipasupil who built Marlboro Toyota rally cars. Edu had Mario build him a rally car. Edu had recently gotten divorced from Vilma Santos. Edu was a huge heartthrob movie star at the time. Average guy in Mario's shop. Shared a couple beers. Mario's dad, Policarpio, owned an artesian water well. Supplied all the hotels good water. Tap water sucked in Baguio. Don't ask. Hahaha. Needless to say the Dipasupil family was "well" off. Met the police chief thru Mario. We went to the Hyatt Regency a lot. BEERs and Tanduay gin chasers. A year after I left, the earthquake hit Baguio. The Regency was destroyed. I still remember a woman was rescued from the rubble after 2 weeks. Crazy times..
