First off, let me say I've got nothing against the current solutions being offered for backseat storage in the CrewMax. The main motivation behind my project is that I'm cheap and since I accidentally smashed my Faberge egg last Easter, I have nothing else of such value to justify the cost to gain a 4" cubby of storage.

In about 2 hours and $22 bucks later...ta-da! Underseat storage for us cheap bastards!

    Project list:

    1) a Couple beers (installer's choice)
    2) 2 Full sized 2.5" depth steam table pans - Sam's Club in this case, but also on Amazon.
    3) Plasti-Dip (because we all have some of this sitting around - if you don't you should)
    4) Primer + black paint

I didn't create an elaborate write-up, just because if you were smart enough to buy the truck to begin with, I'm sure you can manage your way around using a razor knife and cutting carpet and foam.

I primered and painted the pans prior to plastidip just in case of scratches in the dip. I didn't want to remove them after install just to take care of potential silver lines showing through.

    Happy Hacking!!

Great idea man. I like this idea and may give it a try. I just sound deadened that whole area so with all the layers I dont have much space but this seems like a great solution

Not sure if this helps Adam. Snapped some pics when I did my sound matting yesterday. You've got room for sure front and back compared to what some people do as far as cutting. It does slop up a bit towards the back. I forgot the measure the foam, but I'd say its 3 inches thick maximum. Maybe 2.5

Great idea! It looks really good.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Toyota wasted all the space under the seats. One of my favorite things with my GM and my ford *spit* were the flip up back seats and flat rear floor.

Can’t agree more! Took 2 hours and a few beers for my balls to grow before using the razor blade to cut the carpet for the ESP product! So glad I did it though.

This post was perfect. I have a 2018 and I want to mount my ham radio rigs either behind the back seat on the wall or under the rear seats. And since I found out the Double Cab offers the fold-down mod, but alas, our CrewMax does not, these pics show me exactly what I need to know to prep to mount the radios under the seat.

I might have to try this. I was fussing about the lack of storage compared to my Tacoma that the sales lady would ask me is I had installed the ESP kit every time I saw her. I decided that the kit is not worth the money for the little bit that you gain. I would be happy if the seat back folded forward and even happier if the whole seat was adjustable. I think all of the manufacturers have gone to flip up rear seats instead of the lay flat like the Tacomas have. Sometimes I really think that Toyota does not listen to their customers. If they did we would have a drivers side grab handle, storage in the back of the cab and a locker.

This is a great idea... Wonder how that flex seal spray would work?

If the answer is somewhere up there, sorry I missed it, but how deep does the sound proofing go? (How deep from the carpet to the metal?). Thinking about putting in a slimline safe and wonder if there’s enough room.

Any "container" less than 5in tall should fit.
(by that I mean that it will not be flush with the floor, but you WILL be able to lower the seat still)

The ESP video says to use a linoleum knife, but I tried that AND a razor blade... I found that a good serrated steak knife worked the best!

Razor blade was just for the carpet. I am with you though. A serrated steak knife worked best for me as well to cut through the styrofoam insulation.

Hello all, I am currently designing and fabricating CM rear seat relocation brackets that will raise the rear seats 1 inch and move them forward 2 inches. I am doing this to allow better access behind the seats and more room for storage underneath. Additionally this also allows me to fit a subwoofer enclosure precisely where I want it directly behind the center rear seat. I also plan on making pull out drawers for underneath each seat. I will post pics and measurements once all is complete.

Mtbrider541 Please take pictures and post them when you can of your back seat project... I'm not quite there yet, as I have other parts to buy...(drivers side pillar post grab handle on order now, DDs exhaust next). I like the sound of your idea...Bud. been thinking of larger Sub idea in my 16 crewmax. thank you.:hattip:
