So I did the install today, I have the Reference system, this is the upgraded system that includes door speakers. Let me say first, I love the upgrade, my stereo now makes me happy. This isn't some super loud base system, however, it's a good quality sound and now my truck has full sound even with the windows down. The install went well, I had a few questions and OEM audio+ called me back or texted me the answer I was looking for every time within minutes. I would say a 1-10 scale of knowing how to do electrical stuff I am a 6. Let me talk about my install and share any pointers since the video and instructions are a little out of date but still work. This is a newer generation system.

    The install:

I started as soon as I got the box from UPS. I had already bought some panel tools from Amazon. I started just like the video says and when I got to the part about taking my radio out I had a question but figured it out. What I figured out is I didn't need to take the radio out but rather only unhook 2 of the main connectors. I let my radio rest on a beach towel I had under it. Next I ran the wiring harness. It has two big bundles of wires on runs from the radio to the new amp that is located under the passenger seat and the other cord goes from the amp to the sub.

I took out my passenger seat and both back seats instead of trying to just move them. Now you have a ton of room to move around. The video from OEM gives you enough to do most of this without question. When I got to the tweeters I had to figure out hoe to get the pins out of the factory connector from the old tweeters so I could use that connector for the new speakers. I tried for over and hour and said screw it and just put the pins from the new tweeters into the factory connector that goes to the radio and used electrical tape to secure the pins so they won't come out.

The next problem I ran into was the power wire. Here is what you need to know. There is a rubber boot that you will see in the video. Towards the bottom of the boot is hole (on the inside of the cab). In the engine compartment you will see the same rubber boot with a bundle of wire. Under the bundle is a nipple that moves. It's super hard to get to and you have to cut the tip of this off to run the power wire through. I finally used a piece of electrical tape to tape the nipple over to the side so I could get some scissors over to the tip so I could cut it. Now on the inside spray some WD40 inside of the hole and push the power wire through the hole and you can feed the wire through.

IF installing the Reference system the rear speakers are easy to install. The front 6x9 speakers are little harder. Removal of front speakers are super easy, throw the factory hardware you remove away. OEM provides spacers that go between the door and the bracket for the windows. The extra space is needed to accommodate the larger magnet on the new speakers. DON"T DROP THE SPACER, it can be hard to find it in the door if you drop it. Anyway line the spacer up and then use a pick or small screwdriver to line the spacer up with the threads on the bracket. Now you use the screws from OEM audio to connect the spacers and speakers.

Those were the most challenging parts of the install. A few other tips:

Remember when taking off doors (there are a ton of YouTube videos on how to remove the doors) the green wire for the door lock goes on the bottom.

Total time to install the entire system was about 6.5 hours. Once I had everything installed and put together I turned the truck on and instantly was happy since I knew my sound problem was solved. I didn't have to track down any problems with this system it was easy and I took my time.

Did you have the JBL in the Tundra? I'd like to swap out the speakers in the dash and tweeters, I'm not really impressed with the JBL sounds.

At least the JBL's are better than my stock speakers. Something else I need to upgrade eventually.

Thanks for that. FWIIW I had contacted OEM last week about timing for the Tundra DBL cab version. Their reply was that they have purchased a test vehicle and expect the new version "soon". If you are interested just email: info@oemaudioplus.com (Daniel) and request updates.

The JBL's aren't terrible, I'd just like more clarity. I'm with you on the eventually upgrade list though, it's probably near the bottom of my "want" list.

I have no issues with the Non-JBL stock speakers. Honestly, I don't hear much difference from the Bose that was in the infiniti. Which says something about Bose now, doesn't it? (Or the old adage that cars 5 years down the line usually adopt the 5yr luxury marquis items, as the G37 was 2010)

It is also notoriously difficult to compare audio systems that are not side-by-side.

I really miss have steering wheel audio controls like I had in mt 09 Taco. Even base stereos are way better than what you used to get in cars back in the day.

The quality of the Bose in the Infiniti weren't great but I thought the surround sound was top notch and did like the tweeters built next to the head rests.

Did you have the M, or G Vert or anniversary edition? My G37S sedan did not have the speakers in the headrests. I agree, the imaging was good, but the sound quality was only so-so. And the bluetooth mic was AWFUL. The Tundra bluetooth and/or mic is far better according to everybody on the other end of the phone with me.

I had the M45 and the bluetooth wasn't great. The bluetooth in the Tundra is better on both ends of the phone, I haven't had any complaints.

Has anyone else tried the OEM Audio + system? The web site looks good. The price seems reasonable. I think they are located in So Cal? Looks like the sub, while not huge, fits well behind the back seat. A plug and play option.

Interested as well. I really want an upgrade, but want to make sure my money is well spent. I have no problem spending a little more for something better if this is just a mild upgrade. I had the JBL in my '08 taco that was shit, and spent well over 5g's on that not including the head-unit. I don't want to go that far with the tundra, but a more balanced sound with more quality is what i'm looking for.

Another thread with different OP. No response from him either.

I exchanged email with Daniel from OEM + Audio. They're located in Anaheim, CA and appointments can be made to listen to their stuff. I think they also do installs.
