Anyone running this brand oil? Is your engine quieter running it? I have been running Mobil 0w20 since I got my truck but lately I feel the motor is noisy. Could be I am just paying more attention to it as I know these motors are inherently noisy because of the four cams up top. But I have read where some people say they switched to the Toyota brand oil and things quieted down. Thoughts?

Toyota is regular mobil 1. All I can find in the stores around me is mobil 1 advanced fuel economy. Even though it's the same oil weight, it will make the valve train super noisy. Oil from the dealer is basically the same price so that's what I use.

So it's the same as the mobil 1 extended performance? I have been using the advanced fuel economy as that's all I can find around me like @Stig. I might order me some if the extended performance if it's different and try it on my next oil change.

M1 extended is a waste if you're running 5k intervals

Last month, switched to Mobil1 (5w-30 first gen spec) Advanced Full Synthetic from whatever brand oil the service stations put in (a form of synthetic blend) and the summer heat tick on the drivers side inherent in these trucks has vanished.

This is the first full synthetic convert over and I changed the valve cover gaskets, pcv valve, and spark plugs a few weeks later. Not sure what solved the problem, but the oil change was done first two weeks prior to the other work. Tick was never noticed once oil change was performed.

I'm only looking at $2.59 more per 5qts, so its not to bad price wise if it is different then the advanced fuel economy and quiets things down. Does anyone know what The Toyota version is similar to?

The extended is rated to go 1 year or 15k miles. No real benefit if you don't run those intervals.

I assume your truck is not the one in your signature (2017?) or maybe you don't use the 2 years free oil change?

Anyways, how long have you been using Mobil 0W20 or how many oil changes before you noticed this?

just wondering if you didn't have the noise before with the same oil and Now it's showing up maybe something else is going on! That's why I asked if your car is 2017 or older?

fyi, I use Mobil 1 extended performance synthetic in one of our other cars and it's been great!

I buy the extended performance because the only other option here is fuel economy. I don’t want whatever it is they do to help fuel economy in my motor.

Truck is the one in my sig, been using mobile 1 since first change, I'm at 35k now and changed at every 5k so plenty of oil changes performed. I also did not use the Toyota oil changes, never had the dealer change oil on any of my trucks. I'm about to get out of my 36k warranty so I think I am just being more critical/ observent of the truck as a of late.

I put Extended Performance in my truck as well, just because Walmart doesn’t carry standard blue label Mobil 1 in 0W-20 here for some reason. If there’s any downside to the EP line, I’d love to know, but it’s much cheaper than going to a local parts store and buying Mobil 1 of any type there, so I went EP.

I don’t understand why Toyota wants 0-20. I use M1 0-20 because that’s what they call for but it’s like using straight water in our engines.

I would imagine it’s due to the tight tolerances in our engines. But it seems a lot of people get away with running a thicker oil. I do notice in our manual that it says if you use 5-20 then you should switch back to zero 20 on the next oil change.

Personally I think they are trying to squeeze every mpg out of it LOL

If I’m not mistaken doesn’t the second GEN 5.7 L require 5–30 oil?

Believe 2nd Gen is 0-20 or 5-20 in manual.

Well after looking into the Toyota brand 0w20 and it seems hard to get, I am going to switch from the Mobil 1 advanced 0w20 to the Mobil super Ow20. I like this because I'm sticking with the same oil brand i have been using for the past 35k miles and its still synthetic as well. Oreily auto near me has it so I am going to pick some up and see if I notice a difference on this oil change, I will report back.

Yeah lots of manufacturers have gone to it, was just looking into a different oil as some believe our trucks are noisier running the mobil 1 AFE 0w20. I have an intermittent noise that comes and goes, no rhyme or reason so I'm thinking of changing my oil and seeing if it changes anything. I have searched regarding the noise and it seems lots of people get it but no one can say what it is, so I'm not sure if its the 0w20 AFE Mobil or something that's a normal quirk of the 5.7.

I thought I mentioned that in this thread, but advanced fuel economy mobil 1 will make the valvetrain noisy. Regular m1 synthetic l, same as Toyota branded, is much quieter. Not a quirk of the engine but wrong oil used.

eh? 0-20 doesnt come in a "regular" flavor of M1, it only comes with some version of marketed add on pack (AFE, EP, AP, EPHM, HP)... "Mobil Super" is technically a lower grade of M1 if that's what you are referring to.

Subbing to this. I just changed my oil with M1 AFE, haven't noticed a difference in noise. Only have a few hundred miles on it though. It was the only 0-20W at Wally's when I was there, hence why I picked it. I normally go with EP. No chance it will damage the engine, right?

I have predominantly used Mobil 1 0W20 AFE on my rig and have had no issues. Just about 70,000 miles. I had an oil analysis done recently and things looked good.

Not sure, I just buy it from the Lexus dealership. I assume that is different from advanced fuel economy since that one causes the noise. So Toyota m1 must be one of the others.

FYI this is mixed with lower grade base

interesting, i wonder which version they use in there.
I just grab AFE since it is usually what is in stock, first on the shelf. Next time I may try one of these other flavors.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
What 'version' of M1 is best?

It's all marketing nonsense which makes it even more frustrating. If you look on their website they market "mobil 1" as top tier and "mobil super" as lower grade, but in a lot more words.

Yeah I saw that the super is a lower grade synthetic, why cant they just offer M1 ow20 without some type of added on pack. I have researched the Toyota 0w20 and its actually thinner then the m1 afe in comparison but has a bunch more moly in it. I am still researching this next oil change is in 800miles, I might just go away from M1 completely.
