Entune Update Incoming 13-NOV

2 months into ownership, and having just completed a 2000 mile road trip, I have used zero Entune services. The map can’t find shit, and I don’t use Pandora. The HU works ok with Amazon Music, but I don’t know how to get turn by turn (Apple or Google maps) to display on screen.

Luckily I didn’t buy it for the tech, so I’ll just continue to use my phone. But if anyone knows how to get your phone’s turn by turn to show on screen, I’d love to know.

just to add, my son jumped the Toyota ship and traded in his 2015 camrty xse for a 2019 santa fe ultimate. loves his android auto.

he wanted the 2019 rav4 limited, but not having android auto was a deal killer.

 

Didn't even know it had those things on it. I mainly use it to just listen to the radio. Sometimes I use the nav, but the vast majority of the time I don't need any nav capability.

 

You can't get Apple Maps or Google to display on the screen, the unit doesn't have car play. You either have the integrated nav or the nav that runs off the Entune app on your phone. Neither are great but the integrated is much better than the Entune app.

 

Bummed about Pandora, I did use that. Don't care about the others though. Wish they would keep Pandora and get rid of Slacker and Iheart Radio

 

That's what they need.. Less features!

Even with the disconnects and failure to start properly, I prefer Pandora.... guess Pandora is going to lose my business/subscription!

 

Well that makes Entune even more useless... 3 of the top 8 things they advertise will be gone, so we can look at service and...???

 

I used Pandora often, never used open table. Kind of BS, if you aren't going to support it remove the icons with an update.

 

The only thing I use is Pandora. They really have nothing to offer now. What garbage. Maybe the 2020 will come with an 8 track player, it would be more useful than entune.

 

8-track would be very useful, I have a box full of them

 

I have idle time at work right now.... the more I read and think about this, the more frustrated I am. When it works, Pandora in Entune versus Bluetooth is far easier. I start the truck, never pull my phone out of my pocket... and it plays music....

I know Toyota doesn't do a lot of tech, but wtf.

They take their less than great connectivity with my phone/streaming music.... and make it worse? FFS

 

Way to make a crappy infotainment system even worse. They were light years behind before and they managed to screw it up even more. Kudos Toyota.

need a Car Play update.

I have the 18 camry with entunes and the new 2019 camry come with Car Play now...
with Ios12 now you can have 3rd party maps on car play like Waze or google maps.

not sure if they can retrofit with just software upgrade. Might need some hardware or firmware upgrade to support car play on older entunes

Toyota has stated you cannot retrofit older headunits. the physical hardware inside the head unit doesn't exist in the older vehicles.

that's why there is 2 versions of entune. same issue.

entune 3 cannot be updated to entune units since the hardware doesn't exist to support entune 3 on older units.

 

Any of you all with '19s able to confirm whether anything has changed with regards to Entune capabilities (or lack thereof)?

 

the new entune 3 version are now integrated into the ecu. they can do remote start and set your temp, unlock, lock, carplay, etc.

hoping by the time the new gen comes out they have android auto on board.

that and push to start will be a big incentive to replace the 18 with a 21 tundra.

 

I'm not calling you a liar but I honestly doubt this is true. I can think of no manufacturer that would put entertainment functionality into the Powertrain module. There is simply too much sensitive data as well as a need for resources to call this wise. The functionality you mention, much of this can be done via CAN bus and is how many aftermarket remote starts today function. As such, in many cases systems are isolated in vehicle to reduce repair cost/complexity and ease troubleshooting, hence we get Transmission control modules, Powertrain modules, Body Control modules, etc.

 

If infotainment apps are a make or break on a vehicle purchase for you, there is no hope for society and you need a throat punch.
