Hitch Rattle

I know about the commercially available "No more rattle" devices that use some version of a screw down clamp to stop hitch rattle but I don't want to be forced to unscrew anything to change draw bars, I switch bars often enough. Any of you guys have other solutions to hitch rattle?

 

I use mine way too often to not have it in my receiver. I need something to whack me in the shins on a regular basis anyway.

On my last truck I was able to use a few strategic wraps of electrical tape to snug up the fit and cushion the joint but it does not work with this one.

 

Old bike inner tube. Cut a piece and slip it over the hitch bar.

 

Colorado, I'm not sure how your reply slipped by me. I figured no one had any ideas for me.

I tried a plastic window shim but it failed almost immediately. Maybe I'll try wood, it might give a little more.

 

How about wrapping the hitch with some 20 mil PVC tape? Eventually you will have to re-wrap but I think it would do the trick. Or maybe taping the plastic shims to the side of the hitch.

 

Drill the bottom of the hitch and tap it for a large bolt. Buy bolt, weld t handle to it. Easy to tighten and loosen by hand

This makes total sense. I know I’ve seen that on square tubing I’m just trying to remember where. I want to say on an engine stand/lift. Drill a hole and weld and nut over it.

I went back to the wrapped electrical tape I used on past trucks. I had to add extra strips top and bottom along with a couple of layers. I did this in two places. No more rattle. The extra strips were the difference.

 

Between exhaust and stereo system, I would never hear it.
