Ended up behind this guy Saturday.
    Center the load? Nah.
Strap the cinder blocks down? Nah. It’ll ride.

I’m pretty sure I saw the blocks move a couple of times when he hit bumps. New game called mobile Jinga.

There were a couple of cars between me and them most of the way. They were actually following him pretty close. This was right after they’d turned off, and we were starting to accelerate again. I snapped the picture, then backed way the hell off. My turn was about a mile after this.

Besides worrying about them sliding backward, I was really concerned about what would happen if he had to hit the brakes suddenly.

Though I can’t be sure, I think I know exactly where he was heading. There is a huge development going in about five miles down this road. A guy bought up a crapload of land in the woods, and has been parceling it out to high risk low income families. (Financing at 14%!) There are no restrictions on the land use, so it’s pretty rough.
People have been buying the property, and living on it while they build homes. Some are in travel trailers while they work and save up, but others are actually living in tents, shacks they’ve thrown together, etc. At least one family was living in a shipping container with a tarp hanging over the front of it.
It’s a pretty controversial issue near me. The school district that covers the area has been scrambling to add facilities and teachers to handle the influx, the county sheriff’s office doesn’t have enough manpower to cover it, and it’s just caused a huge strain on the infrastructure out there. Building codes aren’t being enforced, just a huge mess.
Though it’s so close to me, I don’t live in the county or school district affected, but there’s a heavy outcry from those who do. I live in the very northeastern corner of Harris County (Houston), and the line is about 4 miles from me. It’s just a tough situation. Neither the new residents or the ones who were already there are really being protected by any local government. It’s basical a no man’s land out in the woods.
There’s also the issue that the area was inhabited by a pretty backwoods redneck type of community, and pretty all of the new residents are Mexican immigrants. It’s pretty tense back there, to say the least. I’m pretty concerned that some bad stuff is going to go down back there at some point. There has already been things like “Build that wall” spray painted on signs there.

Sorry for the digression, but it’s a pretty worrying issue out there. Hurricane Harvey also flooded the hell out of the area, so people have been even more stressed out.

He won't have a truck bed anymore, he'll lift all the blocks and notice that they all tore through the aluminum...
Assuming all of the blocks make it to the destination..

Houston is a strange place compared to DFW. Polar opposite. DFW area as zoning restrictions everywhere while Houston has few.

I had a health teacher in high school that got stitches in the back of his head from a peanut can that he put on the flat area in his car behind the back seat.

Well, this place is literally a stone’s throw outside of Harris County and the Houston city limits, so there are none at all. Until about three years ago, it was nothing but woods with a narrow road running through it.
The few people who lived there incorporated in the late 60’s just to keep Houston from being able to annex them. They elect a city council, but don’t even levy taxes. They did just enough to keep themselves isolated. They’re pretty upset to say the least.

Nah. That's redneck laziness right there. Immigrants know how to strap down a load because they don't want to pay for it again.
