    Hello all,

First off I did try searching the forums but could not find the answer I needed.

I want to simply put a better sub into the stock enclosure/system. Which shallow mount sub do you guys recommend? Can I run a dual voice coil sub with the factory wiring?

I was looking at these two...

    2ohm dual voice
    https://www.amazon.com/Kicker-CompRT-Shallow-Subwoofer-43CWRT82/dp/B01BLVEXH2

    1ohm dual voice
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kicker...1-ohm-subwoofer-black/5190205.p?skuId=5190205

    Appreciate your guys input!

I think it depends on how you wire it. You can make it 2 or 4 ohm, then with the 1 ohm you can wire it for 1 or 2 ohm. Something about wiring in parallel or in series. Someone will be much more helpful than I am
I'm interested in this as well so subd for ideas

I just replaced the sub in my 2007 DC Limited this week with the dual 1 ohm Kicker here: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206CWRT81/Kicker-CompRT-43CWRT81.html?tp=111&omnews=7843632 and I wired it in series for 2 ohms to this amp: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206CXA3001/Kicker-43CXA300-1.html?tp=115&omnews=7843632
I clipped the blue and white speaker wires about 10 inches from the sub and taped off the blue wire. The white wire I connected to the white and the gray wire of this: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFIF2SW/Rockford-Fosgate-RFiF2SW.html?tp=1694&omnews=7843632 and the two striped wires on the adapter I grounded to the truck.

If you have a crew max, you can fit full size subs in a box behind the rear seats. I have 2 JL 10" W1 subs in a ported box. you cannot fit the giant/deep subs, but there are multiple full size subs that will fit.

Where did you mount the second amp? I think I'm gonna copy your setup. I'm pretty audio/electrical illiterate but I'm sure I can handle this myself

I mounted my amp under the rear passenger seat in front of the Jack. Just cut the carpet.. cutout a section of styrofoam and fits beautifully .I left the carpet there.. just folded it back.. cut styrofoam.. then when done folded it back over to hide everything

It is right behind the sub box against the back wall. It fit perfect in that spot without having to cut anything.BBD07E1F-FADE-4CF9-97DC-AEFDEDDE68E1.jpg

    Cheap here

1 ohm and 2 ohm available $89 shipped.
Instill don't know what to get 1 of 2 ohm.
I think 1 would be better if not adding an amp. And I think it could be wired as 1 or 2 ohm depending on how you connect each voice coil.

I ordered the 1ohm and an inline amp as well. Will install end of next week hopefully. Not sure if 2nd and 3rd gen share some OEM box/sub?

From what little I have learned from googling, it looks like you can buy the 1 Ohm Kicker and since it has dual voice coils you can make it either 1 Ohm or 2 Ohm based on if you wire the two coils in parallel or series.

If you buy the 2 Ohm Kicker you can wire it to be 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm (for the same reason).

So I’ll buy a 1 Ohm and try it out as well!

There are two of the Kicker CompRT 8” shallow-mount 1 Ohm subs:

    40CWRT81 (older model)
    43CWRT81 (newer model)

Polyfill is popular. Can get it at wallmart.
If i remember right, 1 pound per cubic ft of volume. Could of been half a pound per cubic ft.

Pink insulation works the best, but only for a sealed box ofcourse.

    Edit

Fyi for those thinking about going with a 300 watt sub. The soundqubed s4 (4 channel amp) is only about $150.

Its underated but will do easy 150 watts per channel. Thats your sub stage bridged for 300 (probably will do 325-350) and 150 watts per front door.

One of the few amps that has bandpass crossovers too.

Its a seriously bad ass amp and is hands down the best budget gem on the market.

So I can just use regular pink fiberglass insulation? I have that

A single 1 ohm dual voice coil (dvc) can be wired to present a .5 ohm load (parallel), or a 2 ohm load (series).

2 dvc 1ohm subs can be wired to 1ohm load (series parallel) or a 4 ohm load (series).

Parallel lowers the original ohm load and series raises the ohm load. Series parallel will present the original ohm load. That only applies when using two dvc subs and there is a certain way to do it.

Yep. 1 pound per cubic ft of internal volume. Theres a little wiggle room there, of course. But to much and you will start to see diminishing returns.

Thanks. So I ordered a single 1 ohm dual voice coil. How would you recommend working it. I am not adding an amp but simply connecting existing speaker wire. And what is series and parallel? Sorry for dumb questions, it's been a long time since I messed with car stereo

    Thanks man.

How much mounting depth are yall working with? The selection of 8 inch subs these days are awesome, and still around that same price range.

Ill find a pic that will explain it much better than i can type it out. You'll totally get it when you see it.

    Capture+_2018-09-14-14-59-47.jpg
Bottom left of the one is the way you want to wire a dual 1 ohm sub. The stock amp and sub i believe was wired at a 2 ohm load.

The top left sub wiring config is parallel. Its simply daisy chaining the positive to the next positive terminal.

The bottom left one (the method youll use) is a series wiring config. Wiring starts off normal like you can see. But the then you just run a wire from the second positive to the second negative terminal.

Thats also from kickers site with some explaination.

    Edit
Ignore the "4ohm" thats writen on bottom left wiring con fig in the pic. The pic is just for reference.
