I just came back from PA state inspection. I was told that my tires are dry-rotting. This was unexpected since my tires have only 10k on them. I've had them for less than four years. The inspection guy told me that Nitto tires tend to do this. Is he right? Is this commonly what to expect for a truck that is always parked outside? (My garage is too small for my truck) All four tires look sort of like this. (the tires were manufactured only a few months before I purchased them)

Did you check the manufacturing date on them? They may only have less than 10k miles on them, but they could've been manufactured more then 3 years ago even though you've only had them for only
    3 years.

my trail grapplers did this on my FJ after 4 or 5 years. i always did a 5 tire rotation so the spare wasn't always totally hanging out the back. we'll see how they hold up on the tundra.

I did check the date. They were a few months old when I bought them. (so about 4 years old)

Would you guys say that it's time for me to get new tires or would it be safe to ride on them for a while?

It's probably time to buy new tires, but I'd try and contacting the manufacturer, and warranting them first considering they are only 4 years old and have 10k miles.

Most tire brands have a 40-50k mile 5 year warranty.

Time to drive it like you stole it for a week. After contacting them about a warranty and possible replacement.

I would go to your local discount tire and use their dry rot/cracking meter. My factory craptastic BFGs were way worse than that and they would not warranty them.

The suns UV rays really can take its toll on tires.

4.5 year old ST tires, and this trailer sits outside. It used to have pretty good shade though. This year I will make wood covers for them.

These are 6 years old. Always inside except on trips. 16201396-991C-447F-A335-7EF6C4DA6D78.jpg

Tires are 2.5 years old, always inside.

Is it just the tread on top or the sidewalls too? I’ve seen a lot of the tread do that on different tires, especially when they are out in the elements like that. Had a set of ko’s That did it and was told they were still fine. Only reason i replaces them was I later found a pretty good crack through a sidewall.

Is your truck not a dd?
