If this post is a retread, I apologize in advance.

So I have an 08 Tundra, which I've really loved. It's had a few problems (thermostat, vent assembly, lots and lots of headlight replacements for some reason), but overrall it's been great. It's the same year as my dad's GMC 2500 diesel, and it seems like it's held up a lot better. 165k miles on mine and going strong.

But man, I'm ready for a new truck. The new Ram is beautiful (reminds me, exterior wise, a lot of the Tundra, and the interior is pimp), and unlike a lot of people, I like the new Chevy a lot too. I drove a Trail Boss, and although frankly, my 08 Tundra has a lot more options than that truck, I do like the look of it, and it drove really well.

Really though, if Toyota would just redesign my truck, I'd wait, but I sure as hell don't wanna wait two more years potentially. I know it's my choice, but I'm just wondering what you guys, especially any who've driven the new Ram or Chevy/GMC's, think.

    Thanks!

If you are talking 1/2 tons - then wait. No better 1/2 ton on the market than what you have already.

Now if you are wanting to step up to a 3/4 or 1 ton....that's a different story.

I'll give it to Ram, that new interior is very nice. The new interior in the GM clones looks as if they took a step back, though the exterior looks ok. The disappointment is the fact that they didn't increase any performance out of the engines. Yes, i know they came out with a 4 cyl as well as a diesel but they didn't do anything with the 5.3 or the 6.2's. I test drove a Titan recently, (don't kill me), it drove like most trucks would but the infotainment system is even more outdated than the Tundras and i didn't want to do away with a sunroof and a full size rolling rear window....

If I were to buy a truck made by the "big 3", then the Ram would be my first choice. If you live in a cold climate, get it undercoated though, those things are notorious for rust.

I think it is pretty obvious that most of us here would recommend Tundra. I don't think there will be a redesign in anything less than 2 years. I wanted to wait also, but decided the beginning of the year to just go ahead and get a current 2018 Tundra. If they redesign them in 2 years, I would have had mine for 3 years then. Maybe keep it another 2 and then upgrade to the new generation. I think that will work for me...only you can decide if you want to buy a current generation so close to the end of their cycle.
While the others (big 3) all have nice features that might be more desirable than the outdated Tundra, keep in mind that it is not just bias, but well documented fact that the Toyotas are more reliable. How much is up to debate, so once again, any of the big 3 will serve you well, but you might have 1 or 2 extra trips to the dealer every year.

I cannot comment on the newest Ram but knew people with '17's that had nothing but electrical and transmission problems. These were on brand new trucks. One had enough and sold it. The other just complains and is sticking with it. I would not buy a Ram personally. I'm also told from a guy that is in the used car/truck industry for nearly 20 years that new 90k-100k Rams aren't worth jack on trade ins. Not sure on the validity but worth exploring.

Neither. Get a Ford F-150 with ecoboost. Better gas mileage than these trucks and haul ass. Have plenty of nice technology too.

Yeah, but the fords are newer gens and the tech is much better than our trucks. I would get a ford before another old gen Tundra. OP shouldn't even consider this older gen from Toyota.

I have heard of a lot of issues with the new ram, so if you want one I would wait at least a year.

Why not a current gen tundra?

Heres why I went with a tundra:

Fords are in shop too often. They dont stick with an engine design very long.

GM trucks dont tow very well.

Dodge resell value is not very good, quality is suspect.

    Titans are too damn ugly.

That said, if going 3/4 ton or larger I would lean toward ford.

If you have a thing for technology and gadgetry, by all means explore the other brands. However, while we talk about mods, lifts and excursions, the other forums are dominated by reliability concerns, recalls and other crappy issues. It is all about what you prioritize. I find Tundras to be great looking trucks inside and out especially with a few slight modifications to add your own personal touch.

The 02’ has never broken down. She has only limped home once (one ignition coil went bad). Outside of batteries slowly going before change out never any serious problems. Gotta say thats pretty amazing for a 17 year old. 158k miles.

I’d hold out a few years if I was you as I think there will be a whole new paradigm change in motor vehicles.
