Currently have a 2014 4Runner Limited with 63k miles. Just oil, filters and tires to date and my only issue is the radio re-boot problem. I haven’t found the correct patch file to download to fix the problem. Fall car fever has me wanting to buy a Tundra double cab with the 6 foot bed. How is the Tundra in snow compared to the 4Runner? Having a difficult time parting with the 4Runner.

    I switched from a 2015 4runner to a CM with 5.6 bed.
The 4Runner with the right tires was amazing in the snow.
That being said I don't see why a Tundra with the right tires wont be as good or better In the snow.

2 vehicles ago I had a 3rd gen 4runner. 1999, limited, 4x4, e-locker. It was unstoppable, sand, snow, ice, never stuck. Very stable travelling the snowy PA roads all winter. I didn't wheel it like I stole it, but i never needed to deploy my Smittybilt XRC8.

I have only owned the Tundra since moving to NC, so I can't vouch for it's snow worthiness that well. We did have a few 1-3" storms down here last year, it did fine. It is heavy and it does bury itself in loose sand rather quickly if not aired down. It's a big truck and is no comparison to the 4runner, weight, length, power...

All depends what you need. If you love the small size of the 4runner, but need a bed, then I would go with a Tacoma.

If you're just talking about driving on some snowy roads to commute in the winter, there is no problem with the Tundra. Reduce your speed and increase braking distance.

Do you need a truck? If so, the Tundra is no better or worse in the snow than a 4Runner (might want to put some weight in the bed, though). If you don't need a truck but feel like blowing some money for a cool new toy, go for it! I've just found that getting something because it's new and cool usually loses the "new and cool" feeling after a little while, then you start wishing you had your $$$ back.

I would say this. I currently own a 4Runner with Ko2 and I had a tundra with Ko2 (crew max)

The 4Runner holds traction far better than the Tundra. My 4Runner has never let me down and gotten me through any condition I’ve put it through.

Not a knock to the Tundra. The 4Runner is just a great all terrain vehicle

I have not had any issues in the snow where 4x4 HI or Low haven't gotten me out of. I'm talking urban driving in bad snow conditions, not up in the mountains where it can get much deeper. So if you're talking city driving in the snow, Tundras does just fine and haven't had a need to add weight to the bed. I'm running KO2 for the record and they are a great snow tire.

@Eclipsed & Floating has experience driving in the mountains and never reported an issue driving in the snow in a Tundra.

    * EDIT: forgot to mention that if you do get a tundra, make sure it's white. Snow is also white. We become one with the snow and together we become one! :muscleflexing:

The Tundra will be no better, no worse, in snow. I’ve done a lot of miles in snow and nothing matters more than tire quality. M/Ts suck, A/Ts are much better, but a dedicated snow tire trumps all if you’re doing a lot of snow driving. If it’s not a ton then I recommend ATs

My 02’ is a champ in all conditions (tropical rain, deep sand and deep snow). Never been into mudding/rock climbing so can not attest there. The 1st Gen is probabaly closer to the 4Runner than the 2nd and 3rd gens.

My buddies 2nd gen didn’t compare to the 1st Gen in sand.

My 02’ has Michelin LTX M/S2 tires. The original version M/S were far far superior.

Owned 5 Tundras, 2 4Runners, stock vs stock 4Runner wins in snow. Not by much though, and it mostly comes down to driver, with tire choice a close second.

Thanks for the welcomes. So far the responses have been what I expected. 4Runner is tough in the snow! Some of the builds on this site are awesome. I have a lot of reasons if to catch up on.

There’s a lot to do to a Tundra that you can’t to a 4Runner. Good luck with whatever you decide.....as long as it’s a Tundra
