Read all the posts in this thread from the beginning.
See how all the posts change the tone once it was announced that the company filed bankruptcy.

I don’t own any Pelfreybilt stuff even though it did look top notch, but have people pay for preorders and Claim bankruptcy and not supply gear and/or return money = shady.

I just finished reading through that.

I feel bad for the folks that committed their money and got nothing in return.

No sense in stirring anything up on here. It's already being said over there.

It came out in the TW thread that lasernut was making their stuff and that’s why it was top notch. This just shows me that not only were they not capable of process development or lean manufacturing, but also they they couldn’t stay afloat with another top notch company fab’ing their stuff. Not that having another fab company make your stuff is a bad thing, but if they weren’t making the stuff, what else did they have to do to fulfill orders? Shame to hear about other folks loosing honest hard earned money. Safe to say I’d be livid.

This is pretty common in the aftermarket fab world though. Poison spyder and many others had fab shops run out their designs. I remember running some trails with Clifton Slay and we talked business. He really didn't make a whole lot of money on those bad ass buggies. It does sound like a lot when someone says "bombshell betty cost 200K, how can they not make money?" Materials/Time (usually 1 year) and 2-3 fabricators costs a grip of money. Hell, look how much the 502HO big block costs as a crate motor, and then bolt a transmission that can handle that power....all adds up.

Funny, I commented in the Colorado section and was brutally honest. Use local talent. I can suffer choosing from many different shops here in Colorado, since we have the off road mecca following here. Not everyone can do that though that lives in the middle of Ohio.

    You’re exactly right on production.
It would make more sense to me if they were using Chineese suppliers.

Fixed expense such as rent and to an extent labor
With vairable expenses like material among the big ones that adds up pretty quickly.

Thats where China comes into play. No matter how much we bash Chinese goods, pricing kills it at the end. Manufacturing is tough here in States with labor laws.

I can tell you from experience that it is common for companies to use outside manufacturers. A company comes up with a concept, yet if they are a small company, they do not have designers in house to do the engineering. Every one of our designs were initiated by me, yet they were put into the design software by someone who knows what they are doing. They make the product for us, we have it powder coated, then we assemble and package the final product. I know Pelfreybuilt was doing things this way. Lasernut makes products for a lot of comapanies that don't have manufacturing facilities. Lasernut has two lasers at a cost of, guessing here, $250k each as well as robotic welders, automatic press brakes, etc. Small companies cannot afford to do this stuff inhouse. I know we can't. This whole situation is bad for everyone involved especially the customers who paid upfront. The sad part of it is that once the assets are sold, the vendors they dealt with will be paid first, then the customers will be paid back if there is anything left. I would never pay for anything in full, and I have a hard time even leaving a deposit. Even when we have released new products for preorder, we never started taking money for them until they were almost through production and I had a good idea when they would start shipping. However, our products aren't $3k. I hope this all works out for everyone.

So many questions, I’m guessing so many people want answers to.
I could understand if this was a Noveske deal where John Noveske died in a trajeic car accident (a lot of conspiracy theories the .Gov was involved) and then the business went to shit - but Noveske recovered and remains to be solid. (Sorry, gun reference)

Was there any detrimental lawsuits that put them under - I’d guess not.

Just plain poor money managent? If so, they should’ve seen the writing on the wall long before continuing to take others money.

I tried to add multiple items to my cart, and received a “sorry, product out of stock” on everything. They may have put that in place to stop orders thankfully.

Yeah man, I get all that. I work in probably the highest volume, for its complexity, manufacturing quality there is. We have hundreds of suppliers. My point is, if they couldn't stay afloat with someone else making their products, but continued to take orders etc. That's bad on whole different level. I know companies out source, because someone somewhere generally specializes in something that you don't and can therefore make it cheaper/faster, but this means you cut costs internally, downsize, among other things. I dunno. Based on the information that is surfacing, seems like this was more for the bad than it was an innocent "oops, we couldn't stay afloat anymore". Not that it's any of my business really, since I don't have a dog in the fight, but just seems plain terrible for the folks spending money.

EDIT: Seems like someone might be backpedaling....

I think they were using cutomer money to expand and grow. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. You can't do bussiness that way. I think that even if they would have got investors, their name was already tarnished. It would have been too hard to recover.

One thing for sure.....had nothing to do with poor quality tariffed Chinese steel vs good ole American steel and aluminum for that matter! I'm not surprised here. All I saw was mostly continuous pre order hype and very little about actual products purchased. I did win a nifty Pelfreybilt sticker this summer.
