The opposite of 3rd Gen Lift

Gang, I have searched here, googled my fingers off and I know this MAY be unpopular being as most y'all are into LIFT for your trucks. I've found but one resource, and not one solitary example in pictures..

I'm interested in a 2/4 or 3/5 drop for a 2018 Platinum 4x4...yes I know that is a bit different, but I desire the 4x4 for inclement weather, and if I do go the Tundra route, I won't be crawling rocks or off-roading so I don't need the extra lift. I want a sleek, level, but not slammed to the ground or bagged look. I've seen some 2nd gen examples, but no 3rd gen examples, and few options for hardware, kits, or even media and such about this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? It's been pretty dismal google searching this....here or in outer internetville. Thx.

 

There is a guy from Dubai that posts on here. Some of the other members might lead you to him. Black tundra with super charger.

I am not much of help in resources, but there are plenty of pictures.

 

It's not something I would do because I use my truck for truck things so often. But I have always liked the sport trucks....Lightning, SRT Ram, SS Silverado....

 

If there is one word I’d use to describe Dubai, “Cool” would not be it. It’s hotter than Satan’s jockstrap there. As soon as you get off the plane it hits you like a 2x4 in the nuts. Lol

 

Yes I lives in that area for 7 months.... Very well aware. Take it the heat Alec and there is a lot of cool stuff there

 

I used to have a condo there. Nice place to live from December through March. Rest of the months melt my brains out.
Speed cameras on highways aren't cool for someone like me.

 

Btw... also look at the 2nd gen stuff. If they make a kit for the 2nd gens, it should fit the 3rd gens.

Here’s a 2018 that was just done recently. Those are honey d fenders and front bumper trim.

Personally I don’t think you should care what the majority of people like on your truck. It’s your truck so make it the way you want. I appreciate all styles of builds not just lifted.

 

It may be heresy but, I am kind of digging it. If you stay away from the obnoxiously large rims and keep it classy.
To be honest once it is just me and my queen at the house, I have entertained getting a RCSB 4x2 and doing something like this as a weekend cruiser for us. Not as drastic as the pictures above but something like what ToyTec has sitting in the shop.

 

I owned an Xrunner for a little over 2 years. Loved the truck, Handled amazing. It's just a completely different aspect of truck ownership. I still had the truck bed to make Lowes runs or carry the MX bike. But at the same time I had something that handled on par with most sports cars at that price point. It was a very fun vehicle and the 6-speed was just the icing on the cake. The engine was tuned by URD with a URD CAI. It really screamed between 4500-6000.

I had an '86 Toyota pickup at the same time, 4x4, beater. This is why owning the Xrunner made sense, because I still had a 4x4 pickup.

I think making a 4x4 Tundra handle good/great would be a fun project. Obviously weight is going to be your main opponent, but if controlled shouldn't be too bad. They race semi's up Pikes Peak, if they can make those handle well then the Tundra should be easy. Personally if I was going to go that route I don't think I would lower the front. I would lower the back to level the truck, get a nice set of 20"-22" wheels with some nice rubber that poked out the sides a little, and then work on making the frame a little more rigid. The Xrunner had cross braces in the front and rear of the truck that triangulated the frame.

If you are dead set on lowering the front an inch or so I would see what options Toytec might have for stock length adjustable coilovers. A coilover with a preload ring that you could adjust the front ride height would be ideal.

I don't care if your Tundra is lifted or slammed to the ground, I just love the lines and looks of the Tundra. I do admit that those lowered Tundras have a certain amount of bad-assery that definitely earns my respect.

 

They aren't cool for a lot of westerners lol

Sport Truck may be the most accurate description I suppose, though the weight of this beast is far from 'sporty'. I have owned at least 5 or 6 trucks in my life, and while I used them for as you say, 'truck things', this one will be for specific things and not others; meanwhile, for those who think of usual "truck things" there will likely be an F250 SuperDuty Diesel around for that stuff down the road not too far.

Chphilo, might I inquire your source for those, as I spent 2 or 3 days doing google searches and only came up with that pic that 1upper provided.

Wanted to take some time to thank you all for your graciousness here and help. I knew full-well ahead that most of you are into the lifted variants and that's fine and that's what you desire. (Isn't it great that there is more than one flavor of ice cream?)

My perception is that this forum is the biggest/most current Tundra forum I've seen, so this is where I've parked it so to speak. hehe...so I thought the knowledge base here would be hard to beat.

Me- I'm way too old and far beyond giving a rats roster if someone else approves of, or like my choices; and I truly mean that in the most un-snotty way possible. Just trying to do my homework pre-purchase so I can hit the ground running when I do buy, and know exactly what I want to do and get it done and over with...and do it right the first time...searching to see if it is truly attainable with the CW Platinum 4x4. I think it is.

Yes, I've seen some of the 2nd gen Sport Truck efforts and they do garner a certain respect, as has been said here. But I desire a NEW 3rd gen.

The Tundra may not have the biggest base for the Sport Truck movement, and the 3rd gen even lesser still; and that's one thing I find attractive.

HEY! Does anybody have a pic of ToyTec's vehicle, or the vehicle mentioned in his shop right now? BTW I did check out his website, and found mucho lift stuff, but nothing for the opposite end of the spectrum there.

 

Someone else above mentioned an adjustable coilover, and I'm wondering the same thing. Not sure why you couldn't use an adjustable coilover but with a shorter coil spring. When my cousin and I lowered his early 90's Honda Civic, we used a chop saw to cut a bit off the coil spring to lower it about an inch. It worked like a charm. Similar principle I would think unless you want to really lower it some more. In that case, I'm wondering about tie rod end and CV axle angles and sway bar links being too long.
