Well this explains it, folks: We actually WANTED the rear seats to suck in the 2014+ Tundras. Apparently the current design "offers better utility in the rear seat". And all this time I thought I would have liked some storage back there... Seriously, though, whoever interpreted that survey where customers indicated they wanted tip-up seats to mean we wanted ZERO storage should be fired.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
ESP should get further involved and make it standard equipment for all new Tundras.

I know, just pointing out that Toyota was trying to say this is what customers wanted and that it somehow offers more utility than before.

I'm boggled by the idea that the Tundra has FAR less back seat storage than the little Tacoma. Like, huhhhh?????

I've always wondered who the numpty was that figured filling the useable space under the seat with a pointless hump that ruins the storage space was a good idea.

    Now I know.

One of the things I loved about my GM was the flat rear floor when I flipped up the rear seats. So useful! It drives me insane that Mike Sweers fucked this design up. It amuses me that he found it "painful" when the survey showed truck owners actually wanted to use their trucks and not his slide/recline system. The fact that a dealership had to tell him to design trucks that buyers wanted and not what he thought were cool kinda tells me he shouldn't be designing trucks and should stick with luxury cars.

Some days Toyota just makes me shake my head. Who hires these guys!?

I used to be able to store a Kel-Tec SU-16 and a Ruger 10/22 Takedown in the compartment behind the back seat of the Tacoma. Can't fit either of them in the Tundra.

But I least it has a V8 :burnrubber:

That's a bean counter problem. They did the math and found that factory under seat storage would cost more than having tilt up seats. The slide and recline probably costs more than just a tilt up seat.

But he is the asshole that ok'ed chrome inside the truck so that it reflects the sun right in the drivers eyes.

The interior blinding chrome is some straight up bullshit. What idiot came up with that? And signed off on it after driving one day in a sunny place.

I have a 2011 Double cab, there is a ton of storage under the rear seat, although mine being a cheapie SR5 doesn't have the lockable storage compartment. Which I'm fine with, you can wedge bigger items up under the seat with the cushion down. I put my big laptop briefcase and my big hiking backpack(use it when I travel) under the rear seat, you don't even know they are back there if you look in the window.

Would cost even less to do tilt up seats and leave a flat floor...

GM does it. Hell, even Satan's own brand Ford *spit* does it, at least in the F1Shitty.

Isn’t the raised area in the back of the cab present in order to make room for the 38 gal tank?

No, they had this design before the 38 gallon tank. It's just foam under there.
