Depends on what your needs are. Hard top is obviously more secure. Soft top is the same amount of security as a convertible. It does flop a little bit out on the highway when I look in the mirror. I can see it breathing a little bit for lack of a better term. I don’t know if that causes more drag. But for the price I was able to keep my stuff dry out on the highway and I thought it looked pretty nice too. I don’t think they really make much of a difference between the two, hard or soft in the mpg department. But if it is even .5 MPG better with no top or you would get your money back sooner on the soft top being that it’s only about $200. But then you have to think that soft top will not last as long as a hardtop. But for me $200 was easier to spend than 1000.

Have the dealer do a ethanol check on your truck, it should be reset in the ecu, if not it will run richer than it should. When you first start it do you notice a small puff of blue smoke?

Check truck alterations out and if you see something you like call and ask for Luke. Toss out a number a few hundred less than what you see and ask for free shipping and he will probably do it. I bought the lomax tri fold hard cover for $675 with free shipping and its listed on the site for $885.

When you say you get 17 mpg on the highway is that going 65? I drove from Austin to Colorado and never got above 15.5 but I was fully loaded with family and gear going 75 on mostly flatland they west Texas. Was hoping to hit 17

I bought the ultimate gas mileage fix. I purchased a Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 ebike for commuting. Flies at 29 mph on bike paths. Old TRD Pro getting excellent mileage now:thumbsup:

Just finished a 245 mile trip home the other day, speed limits in the northeast range 55 to 70 mph, not flat, I would say minor hills. I set cruise control about 5 - 8 mph over speed limit. I think most cops will not bother you at that speed and at the end of the trip averaged 16.8 mpg. Light load in the bed, me and my dog.

Do you have the pro 18 in wheels with the Michelin ltx on ur truck? I am thinking the 20 in TSS gulf states wheels and K02s prob cause the difference.

Damn complaining at 14 mpgs lol those days are long gone for me. Before lift tires and gear I was averaging 15-16 mixed, now I’m getting 13.5 babying it, once I get the gear oil change and can drive it like I stole it I expect to get about 11-12 and in the winter when they give us the cheap gas prolly 9-10 lolF63EB5AB-FEBA-4F0C-88C7-A4F3331DFB94.jpg
Ill be proud to rock this decal lol

This is the size I was going to bump up to after my 2 inch pro suspension lift. But I am having second thoughts as I like the trucks pep in its step with the stock 275/65s and I do plan on using this truck for some long drives with the family. I think I may just put on some decent all-terrain’s and may even stick to a P rated tire. Next year I will have to make the decision.

You forgot headers. Longitude headers can increase mpg

Dont go by my mpg's though, as they were around 11-12 before mods. My truck drinks and it only has 16k on it.

No. Maybe if they were oversized and you had to step on it more to get going. But it is more free-flowing so you would be making more power and have to step on it less. Less restrictions in the exhaust. You would probably get worse gas mileage just because you want to hear scream LOL.

I found on pretty flat freeway, I could get about 20.5 per gallon at 67-68mph, cruise on. Over 70 and the mpg came down.
In mixed congested/town traffic, I struggle to do better than 15.5mpg.

Idle kills the numbers. Also, trying to baby the throttle hurts too; just get up and GO... then ease off.
