Door speakers

Hey all, new here....recently purchased my 2018 tundra. Has stock system with center dash speaker, non JBL. I read all the bad reviews on the jbl system Toyota puts in these trucks so I didn’t care for it. I did listen to myself while test driving trucks and I was pretty let down myself on the jbl system. That being said....


The stock system isn’t too bad, but I am looking to have more kick in my doors. Was gonna get 6x9 jbl component speakers for front and 6 1/2 components for the rear with 1 amplifier to power all 4 and get the kicker hideaway sub to put under the rear seat. I don’t need bass that rattles my truck apart or anything crazy, just want fuller sound all around with highs, mids, and lows. Not sure what amp yet...someone recommnended the kicker smart amplifier that tunes itself, but it’s only 180W....seems kinda low for an amp to power 4 JBL door speakers with 270w peak and 90w rms

I had the 2017 Tacoma with the JBL system from Toyota in it and that system actually sounded amazing, trying to replicate that sound if anyone here has heard that system before.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

 

I went through Tech12volts and was very happy with the prices and package he put together for me. Great customer service. He will do everything from upgrading speakers to full on custom builds. Everything I did was plug and play and very easy.

best bet is to do a 6.5 component system in the front with some sound matt, and 6.5 coaxial in the rear, grab a 5 channel amp and throw a sub in the rear. Unless you go balls to the wall, going with any aftermarket speaker, you will lose a little "kick" in the door, but a good sub (JL audio) will fix that! JL door speakers, a simple 4 or 5 channel amp and JL sub and you'll be super happy.

I put the 8" microbus (ported) in my wife's car and it really rocks!
