Last week i installed a DAP tune with afe filter and started running 91 Octane. With those changes I went from averaging high 13’s at 75mph to 16+ at 75mph.

Note. I spent $650 for the tune and $0.50 more per gallon at the pump. Highly doubt I’m saving anything

Spending 500 to save a couple mpg isn’t the smartest decision if that’s all you want it for. Takes a long time to pay that back. I have one but I didn’t buy it for mpg and I really didn’t see an increase either. It’s just more fun to drive. If I could do it again I might gp Dap remote tune.
Really spending money on an intake to get you miles per gallon isn’t a smart decision either as well as they don’t do anything noticeable other than noise. To be honest none of the things he listed will pay him back in gas mileage. Sounds like you can get good gas mileage with the supercharger but that’s still going to take a long time to pay off lol but bad ass!

I really don't understand all the posts on this forum about trying to increase gas mileage. If you really need to gain 1 or 2 mpg to save money then you are driving the wrong vehicle. All the mods you listed will take longer than the life of the truck to gain that back in saved gas money, and that's if they even make a difference.

First on that mod list should be when you need new tires to buy the smallest and lightest set you can find then air them up.

That’s high prices. The bully dog BDX is $399.99 and the GT platinum is $429.00
Both do the same thing the GT just lets you read real time data and you can leave it plugged in for the display.

First time owner of a truck like this, so Im just asking questions. I have a jetski and other things to tow with so a vehicle like this was ideal.

I average 12 to 15 mpg per tank, but if I make an effort to get good mileage I can get over 18 mpg. The best way to improve gas mileage is to change your driving style. Light on the throttle, minimize use of brakes, keep it under 65, and stay out of the left lane.

18 vs 14 mpg is about $20 more per 500 miles in gas @ 2.50 a gallon, not worth trying to save gas for such a small expense in my opinion. I drive about 1,000 miles a month so an extra $40 a month is worth driving it how I want to.

From what I've read on this fourm and my old friend at the dealership is to check and reset the alcohol content in the ecu back to 0 if needed. It will use more fuel if not reset to 0.

Best thing to do is to change your driving habits. I have never got less than 18.5 not towing and my best tank was 20.3, and that was carrying my family of 5, 2 dogs, and a bed full of shit. Towing my utility trailer and side by side for a full tank I got 16.4. Mine is a 2018 CM 5.7 4x4.

Makes sense. I just see so many threads about gas mileage here. The other forums for the big three probably get a good laugh at us (not that I care). I think you just have to pay to play if you're towing around boats and jet skis.

Those mods are going to do jack squat for your fuel efficiency; any mpg gain will be marginal and the costs for said modifications will not be offset by any mpg gain.

You got a Tundra with a 5.7l v8 gasser and 4.30 gearing: accept that your mpg's are going to be mediocre at best.

Best mpg mods for a Tundra are: doing nothing at all. Keep stock tires and maybe throw a bed topper or cover on and don't lift it....you might be pleasantly surprised by what you get on the highway.

I made a SABM from a plumbing store, bought a used AFE dry filter and removed the secondary filter. According to the computer, I gained .5 mpg hwy in 50-30 degree weather. This is with stock tires and gearing.

The best tank average mpg I've seen is 21.5 as indicated by the computer. Didn't check it by hand. OFC this was highway with a 2wd, factory height, 4.6, and bed cover. The big 3 may still laugh at this figure but I don't have to deal with turbos or cylinder deactivation.

I don't understand why you are complaining about mpg, it's a truck what did you expect. Mileage stated on the sticker is 13 city 17 highway, did you buy a full size truck and expect 20 mpg. I bought a 2018 Tundra for towing a trailer because my 2015 Sequoia did a good job but it wasn't a Tundra. I had a 2017 Tacoma Off Road that I traded for the 2018 Tundra . So be happy and enjoy the truck. When towing a 5200 lb trailer I get 10 mpg. :oldglory:

OP never once complained about the mpg. The question is asked how to improve, which I've done to almost every vehicle I've owned. I see 12 on the hwy and it doesn't bother me but it'd be nice to see 13.

17 CM TRD-OR, 5.7 ffv. I routinely get 17.5 - 19.0 with normal driving, hand calculated & computer are always within a tenth. I don't drive it like a sports car but I'm not a putz either. Drive somewhere around 2000-2500 miles a month. No mods, no lift, have a hard bed cover to keep my tools dry. I'm getting better mpg than advertised, no complaints.

If security isn’t a huge priority I bought a tyger trifold soft cover. I think it was around $200. Of course I would have preferred a solid trifold. But this was a good start because I couldn’t decide if I wanted to save up for a shell or expensive trifold. I’ve had it for about three years now and it’s holding up pretty good! Did not notice much increase in mpg but that may be due to the fact that I drive it a lot of short trips. If I keep it around 70 mph I think I get around 18 to 19 mpg but most of the time I’m doing about 80 out on the highway and I get between 15 and 16 mpg. This is about the same gas mileage I got on my 2006 trailblazer SS 400hp 6.0 and similar to my 2002 Dodge ram with a 4.7 L V-8 manual trans. So it wasn’t hard for me to swallow when I got this mpg.
