Not losing too much sleep over it. I can see why black out kits may go over well. I'd rather save extra scratch for a rear locker. (Or Beer)

Or you paying for my brewskies...........upload_2016-6-1_20-57-47.jpg

If I ever wanted to do the black out thing, I'd probably to the black out kit. Far down on my list. Way far down. Certainly not a bad option though.

My taste is expensive enough lol. I've considered plasti dipping my front emblem to see how it looks, trying to put together a picture in my mind of how much black on my truck is too much. Once I get everything on my list, there'll be black rims, black grille guard, black toolbox...

I like the occasional craft beers, but I seem to prefer Rolling Rock most of the time. Badging/de-badging is a good topic. Any new info is a good thing for those here like @aramirez73. It is a popular thing "right now".

I've seen the over-lay badges and decided that I'd rather debadge the chrome ones and swap over to OEM black ones. The over-lay ones look like the openings on the R and A are filled in and not to mention the badges will have to be slightly bigger to cover the OEM badges. The OEM ones are big enough as it is.

The only benefit to the over-lays would be the ease of putting them on.

I'm for the non over-lay OEM Black badge kit. That's the route I would probably take if I were going to ever do it. Not hat expensive either. Or you can go this route:

You can get them on ebay between $100-$130. @Roman might have them cheaper.

I don't like the overlays, but the light bar and brackets look interesting. Anyone here tried them ?

I bought my OEM black badges through eBay for $95.00 shipped. My kit contained 5 pieces ... the Tundra ones, the I force ones (working on customizing mine with Sky Silver lettering) and a 4x4 badge for the tailgate that I might or might not use.

Removing the badges isn't hard to do and mounting the replacements is fairly simple as well. Just use some painters tape to help you line up where the replacement ones go. When I get my I force badges done I'll post a picture.

Then buy a grade Tundra and save your money. They come pretty much blacked out already.

Nothing wrong with chrome ... it's just some colors (I believe the lighter shades) look better blacked out and others (darker shades) with chrome. It's all personal in my opinion.

Just giving you a hard time on the resurrections of dead threads.

SR5 is a bit of a hold over from a bygone era. It originally meant "Sport Rally 5 Speed", but has morphed into a trim level. I mean, your Tundra is a 6 speed, so it doesn't actually mean anything more than the trim level these days.

thanks that clears that up, but what about the black overlay badges? I think they will look awesome on my silver tundra , I looked at the tailgate insert and it will bring it out, should have been on there from the factory in the first place

Two ways you can do OEM badges in black. There are the overlays as you mentioned, and those just stick on over clean chrome badges, or you can actually order the emblems that were made black from the get go. If you go that route you will have to remove the chrome badges and the residue from them, and then put the black badges on.

It's all personal taste. Some like chrome, some like black, and some debadge for a clean look. Do whatever makes you happy.
