Idatalink Maestro Info

had mine for about 6 months including the OBD2 port connection, zero issues, self installed and the module was reused from my previous truck (reprogrammed). sounds like they're making up any excuses they can about the TSS failures even though I'm pretty sure every single case has needed a sensor replacement

 

these dealerships are so full of shit...

 

I got it fixed this morning, after researching a little more on the transmission range sensor, also called the neutral safety switch. Apparently that sensor/switch is on the same circuit/fuse as the backup lights and the gear indicator in the cluster. Cheap-o LED reverse bulbs can blow that fuse, and I installed LED bulbs right after I got the truck.

I checked the BKUP LP fuse under the drivers side dash and it was blown. I replaced it and popped the halogen reverse bulbs back in, no more warnings on the dash and the backup cam comes on in reverse. I am so relieved! This could have been a major issue, and now it’s only down to a fuse and I need to buy some better LED bulbs. Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am no longer worr Did about installing my remote starter now, which connects to the canbus. I’ll piggy-back the maestro wire directly to the canbus wire while I’m at it, so i won’t have that connector on the ODB2 port and I won’t have any problem with Toyota refusing to cover it in the future. Out of sight, out of mind. Thank god for these forums and the wonderful people who post in them!

 

this is exactly how i did mine and it works perfectly.
isnt it crazy how Murphy's Law works? you do a big project, then some other issue arises at the exact same time that's totally unrelated. nice job sorting that out without the stupid dealer.

 

good to hear you found the issue. And I agree....these forums have saved my butt many times.

FYI: I also replaced my reverse with LED's (and all the other interior and third back light) with LEDs. These are my reverse LEDs that have been in the truck since delivery. A bit pricey, but they throw out a lot of light and zero issues. I've used DiodeDynamics for many years on all of my trucks with great success.

I hope this isn’t a bad spot for this post, since it seems only 2018 owners have posted in here. I’ll give it a go though. I’ll soon be installing a Pioneer AVIC 8200NEX into my 2008 Base Tundra, along with a Maestro & T01 wiring kit. Now, I know I don’t need it for steering wheel controls since I have no steering wheel controls, but I wanted to add it for the added features it supposedly offers, like the TPM display, etc. Is there anyone in here who may be able tell me if I’ll actually gain such features/diagnostic tools, or if I’d pretty much be tossing away a hundred bucks?

 

I'm sure you'll still get gauges and intake temp, engine load, etc as none of these were in my '18 factory head unit, but you're not going to get TPMS unless the truck has pressure sensors in the tires. As long as there is a factory tire pressure indicator on the dash, you should still get the TPMS reading.

 

Thanks for the input, Joe! And yes, I do have tire pressure monitors. Even the plain old steel wheels come with them. The only thing that sucks about that is that the ones for steel wheels won’t fit on aluminum wheels, so there’s another added cost when I upgrade my wheels and tires.

 

I had the same HU and maestro currently in my 2018 in my old 2008. If you plug in the OBD all the gauges and stuff worked fine in the old truck too.

hi guys, just reading this thread and have a question(s) for those who have the JBL and upgraded bypassing the amp. first off, i have a 2018 1794 with the not so good JBL system (upgrade?)
I upgraded all but the HU using ********* recurve and harneses to bypass the amp, again, keeping the HU.
I have the tundra JL sub and JL amp; front and rear focal speakers with JL class a running them. unfortunately, for what i have, the sound is not what it should be. i've had 2 installers tell me it's the HU, bad audio source.
Anyone have the same experience while keeping the JBL HU?
then my second question is if you change the HU, can the maestro ultilize the volume control and scan station knobs and the side buttons like "HOME, and "Audio?" and what about oem aux input?
Third Question, has anyone put in an Alpine ILX 207 or a Pioneer avic 8400 and did it fit well?

I could not get the maestro navigation antenna adapter to work on my kenwood HU. Gave up and ran the kenwood supplied one.

 

Question for you guys in here. Installed a Kenwood DNX994S and do not get a TPMS reading, just a green box around N/A. Called Maestro tech support and they told me it's because my truck does not give numeric readout just if its in the acceptable range or not. Green box means its good, red box means it is outside the acceptable range. Anyone hear that before? Truck is a 2016 pro

 

That is correct. Toyota has no bells or whistles.

I have a Pioneer unit, but both on my 2008 and now 2018 I had numeric TPMS readings on the headunit

 

My 2018 platinum showed no numbers stock and shows no numbers on the kenwood DNX. The sensors come on and show you that a tire is low. Through the dash you can figure out which one, but no numbers.

Any idea what the issue could be then?

 

OBD2 plug not plugged in, Maestro not flashed correctly, wire harness not built correctly

 

I have each psi as well on my Kenwood

 

OBD2 is plugged in because I get all the other gauges and info. Wire harness came from tech12 and assume it's correct, as for it not being flashed correctly I suppose that is possible

 

Also, why would the customer service at Maestro tell me that if it's a bunch of BS? Who knows, I dont even like the TPMS, but I wanted everything to work as it should... Thanks for the input for now I'm just gonna roll with it.

 

Maybe you just got a bad phone rep. There's no good reason why my 2008 and 2018 both had working numeric tpms, but your 2016 doesn't.

 

Crutchfield has some sweet deals going on the Kenwood units right now. I jumped on the DMX905s (best deal if you don’t want NAV or CD/DVD) for $585 shipped including all the harnesses and IDatalink. There’s also a $20 off orders over $200 ( CAF2019 ).

Hopefully I will have time to get it programmed and installed in my 2010 CrewMax over the weekend.

 

@scpete24 @ninjajay @Vendeta2k Thanks for all the info in this thread, it's really helpful! I'm going to be putting ahead unit replacement in the 2016 TRD Off Road Tundra I just purchased. I've been discussing the ability to control factory settings, light times, locks etc . It seems both the JBL and the Pioneer 4200 have this ability. I'd also like to retain Nav and XM if possible.

If you could provide me a complete parts list that would be great, it would help my installer figure out what's worked historically and what hasn't. I'd like to try to retain as much "factory" as possible, and upgrade the head unit to be Carplay/Android Auto compatible.
