I have a 2018 Quicksand Tundra. I need to order a topper. I've owned ARE Z series since 1995. On all my previous trucks I've had to remove the gas lids and send in for a paint match. Two different ARE dealers have told me they don't do that anymore, they just use the paint code. Has anyone had any problems with paint match doing it that way. They also told me there was no way to match paint perfectly but it would be close. Well close would be in the eye of the beholder. I don't want to get in a pi**ing contest over paint shades on a $2700 topper. Anyone pulled that trigger and had any problems?

No problems with mine. They used the paint code but mine is black so it is almost impossible to screw that up.

Quicksand is a very difficult color to.match even with paint code. I know this from when trying to match my fender flares and also on my pro grill i ordered from toyota.

That's what I'm afraid of. If it was a repair at a body shop they could at least see the match and have a chance to adjust it. My guess is, if it doesn't match when it comes in it's still going to be mine.

In daylight the colors match pretty well BUT if u see it in the shade or with polarized glases u can see a small difference in color. I have gotten use to it and not many ppl will.notice trust me

I agree with this ^. It would be pretty hard to see any differences, BUT if you are asking about this now, I would probably go with a tonneau cover. I can almost guarantee it won't be acceptable to you.

looks close but since I own a quicksand and I deal with this as well since I got my fenders matched, its 2 different shades. real close tho that's for sure.

I hope it's close. I just ordered my Z series yesterday. The dealer did tell me that ARE does request a gas cap to paint match some colors, but quicksand is not one of them. He said some reds need to be spectrum matched. After owning the truck for a month now I have decided that quicksand is a color that looks different according to how the light hits it and from what angle you look at it from. So I'm guessing all will turn out O.K. Thanks for all the replys. BTW being an old Ford guy since my first 4WD in 1985. I am really loving the Tundra. MPG isn't as good but I believe it would pull the plug out of the Green River!!

I was also worried about the paint match on my Leer, but it actually turned out really well. If it's way off drink lots of water/beer and get ready to win that pissing match, because for that much money it should be pretty darn close to exact.

have you had any issues with the OTR coating? I'm up in Vancouver (Canada) and several dealers have raised concerns over the coating lasting here (very wet weather) as well as the way the ARE's are made - apparently they are in two pieces (again concern with moisture) and not one molded fiberglass piece??
