    Sad thing is this.

The biggest butt f*ck ford will do to its adopters of gen2 is screw them over.

Eventually the cries for a V8 will overshadow it and too much negativity on the eco will creep up. Ford will change power and end up with a light TT coyote or something along the lines. Ford will soon realize that 1% of the people who buy this truck will even use it the way it was intended. If I could buy a raptor with a TT Coyote id get one right now. And I’d pay the ridiculous price tags. Imagine what raptor owners would do??? They would
Drool. When they re power the resale of the Gen2 will plummet and no one will want it.

Guys, make no mistake. For its intention the 3.5 eco is a much better engine choice than the old clunky V8. That 6.2 sounded freaking AWESOME. But the truck was underpowered. The ECO flys in comparison. The change to eco boost took that truck to a whole new level.

Now, it wasn’t the right choice. They merely tested this engine on the raptor. Now it’s in the limited, also the navigator. The motor will eventually trickle down further and they will replace with a new Light turbo V8. Charge 80k to finance The power and people will buy it.

In the meanwhile everyone who own a Gen2 will lose 20 grand in resale value.

Its almost impossible to convince each other in this thread but some facts

There is no hard and fast rule to start with a TRDPro but not an SR5 in order to get at Raptor. Some Pro & Platinum members in here has pretty much modded the hell of their trucks. The moder's are not only SR5 owners. I never said to build like a Pro. I say go one notch up and build a pro beater.

Lets be realistic, we don't live in Afghanistan where the Raptor was build to ride and uneven terrain and handle jumps. Hilux is build for that terrain. Raptor computer will go in limp mode in mountains of Afghanistan and will be buried alive. Only dinosaur will last there in that part of the world which is obviously Hilux.

True, Tundra doesn't win that battle. Toyota should keep all trim levels the same but upped the Pro to compete with Raptor which will come close to 80k. 80k falls under Lexus category. Raptor has tech, comfort, ability on and off road and its one hell of a mean looking in truck that nothing comes close to. But it DOES NOT have the power. Muffler sounds more like a souped up Honda civic.

I had Ford before as well as the Dodge, no GM yet. Never had any issues with either one of 'em. Never hated either one of 'em. Never fell in love with either one of 'em. I don't love Toyotas either. It was just my review after test driving Raptor last week.

I have a civic and no way is the Tundra a civic lol. That being said I never will knock the Raptor I think its really cool despite being out of my price range of what I want to pay.

EDIT: Hit post before I was done lol

I agree with you on all points.

Aside from the fact it had no power. It doesn’t feel fast because of the suspension, handling, and sound. but that truck is doing 0-60 in about 1.5 seconds faster than a 5.7 tundra.

Lots of raptor owners will tell you it doesn’t feel as fast as it is. The torque doesn’t slam you against the seat. It’s more refined.

I agree w u as well cause the communication here is refind unlike the other.

I could be biased because i installed the supercharger, changed the gear ratio to 4:88 and my truck is lot faster then the stock 5.7 Tundra. Tundra was sluggish to me before supercharging it.
Could be the fact that I drove Raptor after installing the SC. Stock vs stock Raptor obviously is faster than Tundra. I spent $7100 on SC install. It was the best mod I had so far.
Beleive me, Raptor is the reason i m driving a pickup. I looked for the Raptor everywhere at a discounted price before a I settled on Tundy.

Wait what? How fast is the Raptor? My friend timed my 0-60 at a 6.1 second time in my Double Cab (took me forever to get it too hookup right though) Raptor 0-60 is impressive if it is that much faster. (Don't mean to make this sound like a sarcastic post)

Come on dude, let me win this argument on power its already 1AM CST. I am giving you everything else in Raptor (tech, comfort, ability on and off road, one hell of a mean looking truck on the face of the earth) can't say reliability cause this forum will beat the hell outta me.
You can practically buy two Tundys for the price of Raptor so 5.7* 2 = 11.4 so just digest that it has more power at least this way if not by adding SC which I did.
Its not Cayman. Its a turbo 0-60 3.5 secs and its not a Cayenne either.
You have it in 3 years and I have it for the last 3 years before that it was a V12 Twin Turbo.
I will never talk about your GF like that.
I like the front bumpers more than rears but then its just me.
Good nite, I gotta hit the gym early morning.

The Raptor is awesome but at the end of the day it’s just another pickup truck that has strengths and weaknesses. I went with Tundra because I don’t want a “sport” truck with a V6. Every YouTube video shows the raptor’s awesome v6 get beat off the line. The name of trucks mean nothing to me. If someone sup'd up a F150 to where it would out perform a raptor then in my opinion it’s better than the raptor. Not liking it just because it’s not named raptor is silly. We are not talking about fashion here, these are trucks. Maybe we should all agree to disagree and move on...

You keep talking about being fast and the handling, if you drive it like they do in the commercials, it won't last a year. You have to hammer on the Raptor and get into boost to have "the power". You can either have "Eco" or you can have "boost", not both.

From what I have read, the "far heavier" 5.7 outweighs the 3.5 by 40 pounds. Yeah - extremely heavy. Also, if the data that I looked at was correct - the Raptor is a heavier vehicle than the Tundra.

Yes, comparing stock to stock - the Raptor is the winner in most categories. But, then there is the price. I am not sure why you think buying an SR5 (or even the dreaded Base) model and modding it is silly - but you could get one hell of a truck that would take a Raptor down buy buying a lowly SR5 (heck - maybe even a used one) and spending some coin on it. And you would still have money left over if you went the used option and did your own work. But, what is all of this peasant talk? Do your own work on vehicles? Buy a vehicle under $50K? What will the neighbors think? :stirthepot:

I never said lowly SR5, nor did I say modding it was silly. I said making an SR5 into a TRD pro is silly.

Why is that silly? You can save a lot of money that way - if you do the work yourself. Now if you are going so far as to put Pro emblems and crap on it - then I will agree - that is a little corny. But, if you are just buying a base model and throwing a suspension, some skids, and an exhaust on it to get a better look and some better performance - then I don't see why that is silly (which is good, because that is exactly what I did).

Right, I’m talking about the fake pros on the road like the fake raptors.

I have modified 2 tundras and a Tacoma. They all are superior to the pro, obviously.

I argue for the raptor, because it is a very capable truck. Anyone that says different is either a fanboy or jaded. And the eco boost is a very nice engine choice for that truck. I personally don’t like it, but it’s hard to fault. Unless it craptors the bed at 100k.

I won’t be buying a raptor unless they put a TT V8 in it, then ford can have my money.

Sure, it is capable. I have never liked them though. I think that they are ugly as hell. Actually, as of 2019, I don't think anybody makes a good looking 1/2 ton any more. I used to like the looks of the Rams (if they were lifted), but then they destroyed that with the new 2019 model. The Rebel TRX concept looked pretty great, IMO. But I imagine if they go through with that it is going to take that new crap-tastic 2019 body style. I wouldn't ever buy one, though. It will be overpriced - just like the Raptor is.

This is exactly why I’m leaning towards waiting for the redesign (next year hopefully 2020???) I dislike be any early adopter, but for the price I really want to feel wowed. This would be my third tundra and it hasn’t changed hardly at all since the first.

I guess I am crazy then. I have never liked the look of the Raptor. Fugly as hell IMO. Looks like a normal truck that somebody stepped on, then strapped a giant bandaid over the grille.

I also said that nobody makes a good looking 1/2 ton any longer. I agree with you that the Tundra isn't that great in the looks department, neither. The 2nd gens aren't too bad, but I really don't like the look of the 3rd gens.

Raptor was built for high speed offroading and people who like all the bells and whistles who like to say "look what my truck can do". It's an awesome truck don't get me wrong but not built for the same purpose as an everyday truck like the tundra. I really don't know why everybody has to agree. My opinion shouldn't even matter to you if you think the Raptor is the most awesome thing ever then good for you. I personally just wanted a basic truck because when I think of a truck I don't think of how it can wipe my ass for me but again that's just my opinion and should have no bearing on you feel about your truck. Maybe this horse has been beat enough?

Ford sells 500,000 F150’s trucks a year, and Toyota sells 50,000 Tundras a year. Why? Choices. Example: If you want a crew cab with 6.5 ft bed you can get that in a Ford, but not in a Tundra. The F150 is in its 13th generation, the Tundra is in its 3rd. Toyota has a lot of catching up to do, and IMO, it never will. That Sweers guy (Toyota engineer) is a dud, and until the mindset changes, Toyota will remain at the bottom in sales. Maybe remain high in reliability, but that’s only because the truck is running a dated drivetrain and no tech. My TRD Pro has a cam tower leak, so my reliability sucks, yeah, it won’t break down on the road, but maybe catch fire. You would think that Toyota would have solved that issue years ago, but no. Bean counters are also gamblers, and they choose to handle cam tower leaks case by case. Am I disgruntled, a little. I will buy a Raptor when it gets the 7L V8.

Seemed appropriate to cut and paste a previous post as its related....

I think we are living in the prime years of the tundra from a production standpoint. The age bracket that currently enjoys the large V8, throaty exhaust, 38 gallon gas tank, roomy interior etc.. that’s a Gen X, boomer, and silent position.. maybe some Ys too, and there’s overlap, obviously.

We are already suspect of lower displacement, turbocharged engines, lighter materials, and more complex transmissions and electronic gizmos.

Ford has “moved on” to what the future wants, and as experienced as we are, we hold our suspicions as to the reliability and quality... and purpose of these new super trucks. Ford doesn’t disappoint as we see and read of their roadside failures often.

I say... soak it in guys. I love talking to my best friend about his new 65k aluminum Ford eco boost. I’ve even helped him wax it. It’s quite the truck.

I don’t feel the need to buy an expensive 100k warranty, or accept its lack of reliability.
    I don’t want the payment.
I don’t want the higher insurance
I don’t want the ridiculously high annual tag fees (California)
    I don’t care for aluminum
I don’t particularly care for the eco boost or it’s 10 speed transmission.
I don’t even like the auto off nonsense.

So does the Raptor, of which shares the majority of the above attributes excite me?

Ahhh well. It’s nice to look at it. Lol

Now the Pro... Finally a sunroof. Not a fan of the rims, they seem delicate... More show and less functional(that second scoop comes to mind). Perhaps if the tire was wider I'd appreciate it more. Interior is fine, but they have to work on a Lexus style plastic because the interior is easily scratched and not durable. Love the exhaust and intake. Other subtleties are nice. Not a fan of the price. Expected more from the Nav stereo unit.. Better definition, sharper screen, easier viewing in sunlight, etc.

Aside from that, what I'd expect from Toyota. Pretty nice.

Ooh yeah... Almost forgot, Toyota... Put the drivers side handle back on the damn truck already. Lol
