got in my truck this morning and had a hard time starting.... very sluggish, but it did start. Shut it down and tried again and better but still sluggish. I drove to the dealership and they confirmed that the battery was bad. Replaced it under warranty. Batteries don’t last long in Texas due to the heat, but seriously..... less than 24 months! I guess I should be grateful. I bought my wife a 4Runner last year and her battery lasted 2 months before it died. The dealership was great though. They were fast and easy to deal with.

Batteries in general are pretty decent these days. In alot of cases the actual date it was made is the issue.

Its not uncommon for a store bought battery to sit months on a shelf before its sold. Id imagine it would be similar to a truck that has been sitting in a dealers lot for an extended period of time.

I had no idea heat affected a battery to that extent...and it's been hot here in NM also...I think I'm gonna go start up my truck!

I had to replace my factory battery last weekend, my truck was bought new in May of 17 and just under 8,000 miles.

Went thru 2 batteries in the first 2 years. Dropped in a Northstar AGM 27 in 2012 and still going strong.

OEM battery failed on my tundra after only one year. Dealership said I had a defective battery with a bad cell. They replaced it under warranty.

Being its never easy to figure out if a particular battery is a rebadge of another, X2 Power is rumored to be a rebadge of North Star. Not sure either of which group sizes they cover but for anyone that is interested it might be worth digging through google for.

    Just a thought is all.

    X2 is a Northstar and has a 5yr 100% replacement warranty.
    The Northstar is 4yr warranty.

I'm also in S.A., and the battery on my 2016 just died last weekend. Only had 26k on her, but got a new one installed under warranty. Thought I might have a hard time, and they would have tried to pro-rate it, but no questions asked.

Strange you guys in Texas are having a few early battery issues. It's hot down there, no worse than the central valley in California. No issues on my 16... Yet.
Its a shame the battery companies, of which only a few exist, don't ship them empty to us/manufacturers. For them to be made overseas, activated, and put on a ship, and later sit on a shelf, isn't the best for longevity.
I have been debating the replacement, and learned my lesson with the wife's Lexus (lasted four years or so). Staying stock.
As far as the Tundra... Interstate maybe? Guess I have to find a shop that sells ALOT of batteries. Hmmm

Mine is still the stock battery in a 2013. Still strong but thinking a pre emptive strike might be in order. The x2 has the same specs as the northstar and a year longer warranty. $300 with discounts from batteries +.

A question, has anyone used a memory saver when changing the battery? Pros, cons and recommendations requested.

Happened to my truck this morning in Florida and happened to my wife's car about 3 months ago. Both batteries Toyota from 2015 and both dead as a doornail, they told me to pound sand on both because they were certified but used cars. Kinda bullshit really. Dropped 50k+ on two cars and they tell me to pound sand over a battery.

Honestly, just buy your batteries where you can compare manf. born on dates. Less than 3 months old is ideal. Over 6 months, pass on it.

Heat and cold are of course bad for your battery, but sitting on a self doing nothing is possibly worse.

Oem batteries are no different. Just cause your vehicle is only a few months old doesnt mean the battery is... The other half of the time it is! Something like 90% of all oem bats are a Johnson Controls product.

In my own personal experience, and a long time car audio enthusiast, i make my batteries cry. From a 6 year old duralast gold, to a 5 year old walmart everstart... 8 year old optima gold top, back down to a budget Continental(as in two of them was cheaper than one walmart brand) ect.. ect.. To my current Exide, they all performed great. I also have seen quality brand bats be duds.

I buy based on how long the battery has been sitting on the shelf. Well, that and how much change i can find in the couch cushions.

Side note, Exide bats are now sold at home depot. $100 to $130 for a somewhere in the middle grade bat is a good deal.

There are definitly tiers of quality from different brands/models that are undoubtedly better. But if all you need is a regular old battery, check the date!

    /battery rant end

I’ve thought about keeping it hooked up to a battery tender while changing them out on past vehicles. But chickened out.

Both "food" and "thought" make me sleepyyy...zzZZz

That is a hell of an achievement. Pretty scary thinking about how discombobulated your senses must be with everything happening on basically a jet that you're trying not to let take off.

Good thing he had that optima battery. I imagine you'd need something heavy to hold onto at those speeds!

One dollar says he could of been faster with a capacitor and a couple fireball decals. Them fireballs are like 50hp a piece.

Does anyone have a recommendation or a review on an Autocraft Platinum AGM battery vs a standard car battery?

The Autocraft Agm plat is probably a fine battery and "should" atleast be on par with or out perform a standard flooded lead acid bat of similar cca.

Not to beat a dead horse, but something like 90% (i believe) of automotive batteries are manufactured by pretty much 4 companies.

Thats a lot of brands, models, SLA, AGM, lithium, marine, and gell cell batteries that just one of those companies have to market, earn a profit from, and compete with.

Most of those bats are going to share all their components with all their other product lines that they own. The difference in what they will retail for is probably based on the quality of the build house than the actual make of the battery is.

My battery from my 2017 crapped out yesterday. Had to get jumped by AAA who also ran a diagnostic on it. It wouldn’t hold a charge any longer.

I called The Toyota dealership and asked them if it would be covered under my extended warranty and they said no. They wanted $179 for an OEM battery.

I said forget it and ordered an X2 battery from Batteries Plus instead. The X2 has a Northstar logo on it. A 5 year warranty is worth the hassle of not having to deal with this BS every 18 months. OEM Car battery quality has really gone downhill.

Good choice on the X2 bat.

I've had several of them over multiple vehicles and all except one have lasted over 3 years, which is fantastic in TX heat. The one that failed looked different from the others (likely different supplier) and was replaced for free.

On the opposite end, every single OEM Toyota battery I've had has failed within 2 years, one of them developed a nasty leak that required the dealer to replace corroded terminals under warranty too.
