I'm looking into getting out of my 2001 Tacoma and into a 2019 Tundra. I found a Cement Crewmax, TSS, 4wd for 44k out the door. Since that's a lot of money, I'd appreciate some feedback from people that have already been through the buying process or are more knowledgeable in this area. I've never bought a new truck, but after getting that quote during my shopping around and then visiting a couple of other dealers, they all have said they couldn't come close to that and to go back and get it. I'm trying to get them to add in the power locking tailgate and deck rail system in that price (said most likely, but haven't gotten a firm yes from them).

Thoughts? And thanks for the information in advance!

The power locking tailgate is a “mod” and not a dealer option. The deck rail system can be a dealer or port installed option.

Some of the trucks already had it installed, and the code was BL on the spec sheet. When I built a truck on Toyota's website it was listed under exterior options. Maybe it just became a factory/dealer option recently?

Dealer threw in power tailgate lock on mine when purchased and installed. I would say you are getting a very good deal on that price!

I was right about $44k OTD for mine in 2016. White,Crewmax, TRD off road 4x4, SR5 upgrade with deck rail system. Not sure if all SR5 upgrades come with it but mine also has navigation.

Thanks! And those numbers do make me feel better about this deal. Cedar Park Toyota in Texas was ridiculous. They tried passing off the standard SR5 upgrades off as their own special touches. I called them out on it, and never heard back from them...

It has navigation in it, but I'm not sure if it requires your phone or not. The salesman at the dealer stated you didn't need your phone hooked up for the navigation or weather app, but did for the rest of the Entune apps. Not sure if he is correct or not, but I use my phone for google maps all the time in my Tacoma, so no big deal either way.

    Thanks.

Yeah, that's generally what I've been told, but I've never bought a new car, or any car from a dealership, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting fully screwed over. I've reached out to my salesman earlier today and set it up for Wednesday afternoon. Trying to sale my Tacoma beforehand so I don't take a hit on trade in.

It all played out quicker than I had anticipated. Figured there would be a lot more back and forth negotiating.

Hi what was the sticker price on the truck?
Is it an SR5? The deck rail and sprayed in bed liner should probably be included at that price.

After their upgrades and what have you, they claimed it was worth $48,803 before tax, title, license and doc fee. It didn't include the power locking tailgate or deck rails, but did have spray in bed liner.

Yeah, I tried this too and they always call, but don’t be surprised if they say come in to talk and then offer you the same price. If you have multiple dealers in your area. Talk them down as much as possible, tell them you want to think about it over night. Go to another dealer, show them the offer and tell them if they want to earn your business they have to beat it. Worked for my brother who just bought an f150. $2k under invoice.

I've gone to three other dealers and all said they couldn't match it, let alone beat it.

There is a whole lotta mark up in the Ford trucks. 10 to 12 off sticker is pretty common. In all three Toyotas I have bought it took everything I had to get them to come off 5 from sticker.

That's pretty good. I bought a transit $300 under invoice, but I also put in a special order, so i knew i didn't have much wiggling room as they know you want it.

Pricing is regional... In Ohio I bought mine for $42 and it sounds to about the same truck. I got running boards. Sticker was $47.5. $5k is about the best you can do. I kept my Taco... I just couldn't let her go. Once they are paid off and depreciated they don't owe me anything. Remember that when you trade one in you don't pay sales tax on the value of the old truck... Be sure to add that additional $$$ into the sale price. Now that you locked in the price of the new truck make them pay the right number for the trade. Stealerships will run into a burning building to get a clean used Taco.

Well, after some back and forth about the price, getting the main guys in on the conversation, I was finally able to get it as quoted at $44k. They wouldn't add in the power locking tailgate, but I did get the deck rails. I attached a picture of the truck in it's new home. 20180830_080153.jpg
