It’s about time I started a “build” thread so I can keep track of the trucks progression and to provide useful info for others. This will be my new adventure/camping/road trip vehicle and I will slowly build her up to my needs and mostly, wants.

Thanks Matt! Sometimes I wish I bought an AC or RCLB but my dog loves the roomy back seat and he’s not small. It’s always greener on the other side.

 

I love my AC, perfect power to weight ratio

It's my first v8 and I'm loving it. It doesn't really need any more power than the vvti, but naturally I want more because reasons lol
300hp just has a nice ring

No problem. If you go 6.5 for the rears, you can reuse the stock mount.

 

When I looked them up on Amazon they also recommended spacers and speaker connectors for Toyota vehicles. Do we need those also to make the change to aftermarket speakers or just the adapter rings? Thanks.

 

For the jbl system I didn’t need spacers and the connectors I got for free from crutchfield didn’t work. I used the original speaker wires and soldered them to the wires from the new speakers. Same with the tweeters. So just the adapter are needed when swapping out the jbl system.

 

What, if anything, did you do to the rears to get the new speakers to fit/work?

 

If I remember correctly, just unscrew the oem speaker from the mount and I was able to align the new speaker tabs so the screws went into the channel. You can kind of see here:
Red is where the oem speaker screwed into the mount.
