The whole light fixture? Or just the bulbs?
The whole thing is a pain in the a$$ you need to drop the headliner

It's a lot of work from what I gather.
Might be worth just installing good LEDs and tinting the cover with vinyl or spray tint.
I actually was thinking about adding LED brake bulbs in there that give some quick flashes before going solid on for increased visibility.

I added LED bulbs to mine only thing is make sure rubber gasket it back correctly. From what I gather people that replaced the whole thing ended up with water leaking into the cab from rain getting in. I think @Pudge had a great solution in my opinion.

They make a bulb that does that or do you have to add something to make it flash?
That is on my list. I only know of a module that does that.

    Flux capacitor!
Here is the instruction on removing your headliner if you want to replace the 3rd brake light. It’s a lot of work for sure. Steps you will need to do.

    1. Disconnect battery. Your working near your side curtain airbags so I would recommend this to be safe.

    2. Take off your two front sun visors.

    3. Remove both the the roof grab bars. These are the biggest pain about this whole project. They are not easy to get them off without messing them up.

    4. Remove the rear, mid and front upper pillar trim pcs that butt up to the headliner.

    5. Unscrew the front and center overhead cab lights.

    6. You will want to be wearing clean latex gloves before you touch your roof liner. Any oils on your hands will leave finger print marks. Now you can reconnect the battery to lower your rear window. This is how the hood liner will be removed.

    7. Once the liner is dropped you have to be careful because it large and it will bend. So it can cause a crease in it if your not careful.

    8. Now you should have access for the two 10mm bolts inside above the liner to detach and unplug the 3rd brake light.

    9. Install the new light and repeat all the previous steps.

I went ahead and did the sound deadening and a layer of 1/4” sound insulation since I had the roof liner off. It’s the best time to do it. I hope this helps you if you decide to do this mod. 3A15040B-9050-429D-9564-12C00CFAA438.jpg

It is a pain. If you do, make sure you seal it correctly or it will leak!!

I would only do this if you had another reason to be dropping the liner. Such as sound dampening, roof rack install, roof lights....then maybe it's worth the work to do the 3rd brake light while your at it.
Some day I wanna sound deaden my roof and this post will be very helpful. Thanks 1upper

Your welcome. I had my recon led third brake light for over a year before I finally installed it. I decided to wait until I did my roof rack and sound deadening. It was a royal PITA project for sure.

I just put some led bulbs in up there about an hour ago. I heard the gasket peel off of the housing but was almost still on the cover. Went to put the cover on and the gasket was all over the place. Damn near impossible to get it to stay long enough to get the cover back on. Read up a lil hear after looking at new cover options... decided to get some gorilla glue, a toothpick, and tac it back down. Took less than 5 min to seal it properly all around.

It was when I read in your post about water in cab... that's all I had to see lol I've had that issue before with a sunroof and dont ever want that hassle again. I know you were talking about replacing the whole assembly and the leak but it was enough for me to make sure my cover was sealed properly lol.
