Hello again and thanks for all the wonderful information.

Bed Covers!! Do they really help gas mileage?
Map updates? Can you do them yourself with an SD card reader or do you have to buy the SD card.

I could never do a proper comparison as I put one on before my truck was even broken in. I feel it helps a little. But mythbusters says otherwise LOL

Best way to save on gas is leaving it in the driveway. But that's not fun is it:thumbsup:

I think my bed cover added 7.5 HP and the running boards were 3HP. Still burns gas like a dumb truck LOL.

Curious about maps as well. My navigation sucks on my 2015 to the point I don't even use it. Google maps is fine for me cuz ot gives me turn by turn audio when in listening to pandora. I refuse to pay for a map update at the dealer.

I have tried the copy paste on map card info, need to generate a new p12 file from what I can finger out.....I couldn't figure out how to generate a new file though.

I have an Undercover hard cover. I noticed it keeps my stuff dry in the bed. That's about it.

I think it has more to do with how & where you drive.... I spend a lot of time on the highway....300-400 miles at a whack..... so a cover probably helps a little. Keeping it 72mph or under is the sweet spot for my rig, I can easily get 20mpg or better but it drops quickly in town/traffic

I just use the Scout GPS App (free) and added it as an app to the Tundra. Works great.

How do you add apps to the OEM head unit?

I have a Toyota trifold. I’ve run it with/without the cover and haven’t seen any changes with/without.

Added the app to my phone connected it by Bluetooth and the Scout GPS app then asks if you would like to add it to a vehicle. Select yes and it appeared as an app.

That's cool I'll have to try that. I wonder what other apps can be added?

From what I hear there are a lot...especially music apps like Pandora and Spotify. Haven’t tried any others. Kind of liking my XM right now.

I say no, because any increase in mpg, I think would be offset by the extra weight. I’m not sure about other covers, but I have the Diamondback HD and it’s a good 100 lbs added to the bed.

Scout GPS is what they're doing instead of integrated NAV on the newer Tundras. It's connection NAV where your phone does all the work but it displays on the head unit..

There are many scientific studies out there that claimed that bed covers do improve a pickup truck’s mileage. Of course, it won’t be mileage improvements close to that of a Toyota Prius, but at least an extra mile or two per fill up.

Don’t see why there would be a difference from year models that close. I just downloaded the app to the phone and then the app will ask if you want to connect to car. Make sure Bluetooth is on and it downloaded the app....wish I could help more. I do not have the unit that has a map card either....not sure if that matters??
