Welp. Day was going fantastic until I went to pull out of a driveway and a young kid on a 20 year old bike with no brakes come flying into my passenger door after I had been stopped for a good 20 seconds. Kid was looking down not paying attention driving his bike on the sidewalk.

Suppressed my urge to strangle him to death and gave him a ride home instead. Turns out he is a pretty nice kid, just in a bad situation so I am going to try to help him get a newer bike with brakes that work.

Now for the damage to my passenger door and fender:

Obviously not major but an eyesore nonetheless. How much would you guys think it would cost me to have a body shop repair the damage?

Really Stinks!! Guessing $300-500 to repaint whole door / fender. Being white, hearing no clear coat, maybe a spot fix or 2 for couple hundred.

Recently had some paint work done, really surprising how much quotes differed from one shop to another. Get a few quotes.

Edit: thinking guess low, maybe $400-800 to repaint door / fender.

Good Luck! And kudos for thinking to help the boy out as well!

The only reference I have is a scrape on the door of my old Tundra. Quotes were around $600.00 to repaint the door.

Thanks for the info! I will definitely shop around. Luckily I know a guy who has his own garage and does body work on the side. Hopefully he will be able to fix me up a little cheaper than most shops would charge.

Ouch. At that price I would probably just say to hell with it and keep it as a battle scar.

Thanks for the offer! I have my eye on a few on craigslist but if it doesn't work out I may try to fix one up.

I actually did. The guy’s insurance gave me around $1,500.00 for it. I decided it didn’t bother me much. Got my new one not long after that anyway.

Same here. 4 or 5 hours repair on the door, 2 on the fender, blend the rear door and some R/I operations.

Depending on the local market labor rates, $1500 seems in the high end of ther ballpark.

How in the hell could he not see a huge ass truck pulled out into the sidewalk??? I mean what sort of meds is he on???

I know my old 2004 Tacoma(family owned since new) had been rear ended twice when I got it. First time it pulled the rear bumper down, dad had the other guy's insurance pay for it. Few years later, somebody else bumped into him, he pocketed the insurance money that time. I get the truck, sick of looking at ugly dented rear bumper with rust bubbles, put new chrome bumper on truck(was cheap actually, like $150), then I get tapped in the rear when its raining sideways, guy wasn't paying attention and just couldn't stop his huge ass Chevy truck in time. Put a dent in the bumper, I got an estimate of $300 to fix it from a body shop, told him $400, he gave me some cash so I wouldn't file an insurance claim, rolled around with dented rear bumper for another couple years, said fuck it, rear bumper is cursed, I fix it somebody else is going to hit it. Funny thing was every time the truck was hit, it just screwed up the bumper, never did damage the tailgate/body/bed.

Time to use a piece of railroad tracks as a bumper with hooks welded onto it. If their vehicle hits you and gets stuck..... To the victor goes the spoil's
