Suspension Geometry to Tire Relationship Question

    TRD lift and AFE airbag arms, 285/65 Cooper AT3s
    Below in the picture is a 285/55R20 Terra Grappler G2 on my stock 2014 platinum rim and stock suspension. The driver side wheel is turned inward, sitting on mostly level ground. I've been considering a 3/1 lift from Toytec and larger tires. The size is TBD but I would keep the stock rims. There is limited amount of space between the UCA and tire corner. How does this change in a coilover lift if that spindle arm remains stock? Doesn't that dictate the relationship between UCA and wheel/tire combination (external factors like wheel spacers and backspacing excluded)?

    Noticing this is making me question doing a lift. I've never done a coilover lift so any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    You will have the same clearance lift or no lift. You need different wheel offsets or spacers. If you want to run bigger tires

    That's my concern. There are people running larger tires on stock rims. Is there really that much tolerance stack up in this system?!?!?

    I would think you would get an idea of how it will look just by jacking up your truck a few inches. I’m pretty sure most guys running bigger tires than that on stock wheels have had to add spacers to clear the upper a arm.

    This. You need to change the offset, either spacers or different rims. For most on here it seems like -20 to -25 is the magic number. It worked for me.

    I thought it was +20 to + 25. Isn’t the rock warrior 17” rim +35?

    RWs are +50. Optimal offset for a 3” lift would be +30 to +40, just enough to get away from the UCAs and less rubbing. But there are very few wheels out there with that offset. +20 to +25 is the best common offset.

    That’s right RWs are just a slightly different offset from the standard TRD +60 wheels. And I would be more interested in +30 to +40 as I think that would look just about right for the look I would want.

    Triple damn. This is what I worried about. I really don't want to buy new wheels. I guess I need to get over my hang ups about using spacers. Those things just kick the problem to a different spot.

    Also eyeing up the SPC UPAs. The tubular design should also buy some clearance at full lock.

    How are your suspension components holding up after 30k miles?
    Ball Joints, CV boots, half shafts, etc.
    Guy at my former job lost his LBJ on his Tundra and Toyota actually warranty repaired it (impressive).
