Long time tw member, y'all may know me as because_minitruck on TW. Tomorrow I'm trading up from and 03 dc trd prerunner Taco to an 06 ac limited 4x4 tundra.

Anybody know what the "shift L" button is for?

    Awesome!
You'll have to post up some pictures once she's in your hands.

What are your plans for the truck?

    Good plan!
I've seen the OR and TRD Pro wheels on 1st gen Tundras and they look pretty darn good.

You'll love the difference... I kept my 2015 Taco and added a tundra crewmax for the last company truck. Literally no comparison. For the 1.5 MPG it is worth every penny.

From what I've read and talking to a co-worker with a 1st Gen tundra v8. It seems like the tundra gets the same mileage as my first gen DC taco

Good move, welcome! I think shift L just moves to low gear, mine doesn't have that.

Minitruck... I recognized that trademark avatar. I traded mine in, well one of them. No regrets whatsoever. Fuel mileage is atrocious, but I knew what I was signing up for.

Do you know what you are going to get for your Tacoma? I have two '03's I need to move eventually. I have a limited 4-door 4X4 with 70,000 original miles, some guy offered me $20,000 for it and I turned him down. Really regretting that now.

    That's me :burp:

I'm getting screwed on the trade in. $5.5k @ 177k miles. Its probably worth $8k in a private sale.

Yeah you should have taken the money and ran! :spending::burnrubber:

Welcome. You’ll enjoy the additional room and power of the 1st gen over your taco.

As @Darkness mentioned, the “shift L” button is your first gear. Drop the shifter into 2nd and then press shift L for 1st gear.

Exactly that for the “Shift L” button. The reason for it is that the earlier 1st gens were all 4 spd. autos, and the column shifter was designed to match. 2005 brought the 5spd auto, and rather than a whole new column shifter, they simply added the “Shift L” button to be able to manually downshift/ limit upshifting to any gear.

Yeah I definitely am looking forward.to the extra room and power. Those were major motivating factors in my decision to get rid of my trouble free taco. I just hope this tundra with about 12k more miles than my taco is just as trouble free! :)

Welcome. Former taco owner here too. Not as familiar with the first gen, but it's a great engine that will last 100k+ more if it was taken care of.
