Actually cut the bottom straight up the stitch line on all the sides about 1 1/2" first so you can tuck it it easier around the shifter base. If it is still to much cut another 1/2" and keep going to it fits nicely.

 

Got rid of the chrome TUNDRA lettering on my platinum badge. Not sure I love it. Some day I'll take it off and apart and do something else with it.

Thanks man. I taped off around it and added some paper around the tape. There's little to no over spray and of there was it could be easily wiped away. I think I'll grab a scalpel at work and trim the inside parts. I like this "paint" but it's pretty thin, thinner than plastidip sp you need to do several light coats or it will run. I like that it's not too matte (or grayish like plastidip) and not too glossy. Closely matches the interior trim paint I used on other chrome inside. We'll see how it holds up.

Plan to wash Friday and apply some of that meg's ultimate wax you suggested

 

Sure you were..... lol. Even u saw inspecting my paint. Still great reflection but its dirty for sure. Can't wait to try that wax. If that works well and looks good I'll use that through the good weather and then do some hydro2 right before the cold hits for some extra winter protection.
Also I am hooking up with some guys from tacomaworld in late Sept for a frame spray with fluid film. I traded the guy some Tacoma parts i had laying around for a few sprays.

Good advice, I might try this. Unfortunately if it don't work it will probably end up being useless to anyone, including myself, if I ever decided to do the same shifter as u. That was my plan if for some reason I did not like the hydrodip I was planning to get the same as you.

I'm just not so sure no matter how much I cut if it would ever fit and look right considering just how low the shifter knob sits on the shifter rod. See how little space there is between at the bottom of knob.

 

Thanks. I took every other badge off but kinda liked this one other than the chrome. The rest is brushed metal look and matches my wheels so I like it. Now that the chrome is gone I like it even more. I dont hace much chrome left. Believe it or not my interior door handles are chrome and that's the last thing I need to do.
Did my steering wheel badge with this same stuff today. Worked very well and looks pretty good.

 

I agree theres not enough space with the trd knob sitting so low. Plus it will detract from that awesome hydrodip look. I think even the red accents kinda take over a bit much. I'd just paint that chrome bezel black and call it a day.

 

It looks really good dude. I would def try an exacto knife or something.

 

Maybe it's just me, but I'd keep any kind of sharp cutting tool from the airbag area.

 

I think when I get the 3rd and final piece back from my man I'll see how it looks just sitting it in there without cutting. Honestly I think with all 3 pieces having that riveted metal look I'll be ecstatic with the way it looks just putting that in there without going anything else. I don't think that tiny piece of chrome is going to bother me by the shifter considering it's gonna be around a couple knobs anyway.

I think the important thing is that I at least rid myself of that hideous chrome cupholder blinder and I'll be putting the tvd decals over the ac vents. I think once all that chrome is gone the couple small pieces left around a couple knobs and the shifter won't bother me much. Then I can focus my attention to some more baja designs lights in the rear bumper and getting my train horns installed. After that some sliders and maybe a rack drilled into my db cover that can support a 4 person RTT. Ugh plenty of great ideas, just not enough money to make them happen at a pace that satisfies me.

 

Its gonna look so good. The ac vent decals are really nice too. I did them a few weeks ago and if you really take your time you can kind stretch them to cover 99% of the chrome. Oh and theres this too...still need to trim the inner parts out

Despite my hate for chrome, I think once the 3rd piece is in and the ac vents are no longer chrome I'll be happy enough to call it quits on the interior and get to what I consider to be most important exterior and functional mods. I may completely be lying but I think I'm happy with my interior mods to call it quits inside after this. Well after a steering wheel mod, ok I'm probably definitely lying. Lol

Changed out my deflector to something a little more badass (IMO at least). Although it's hard to see it's actually a textured matte black. Kinda looks painted in the pics. The 'Before' pic is actually color-matched.
