Anything other than KO2s I should look at?

Most people that complain about any product being shit or faulty or whatever, when they post stuff like that on the company's review page, they never tell how much shit they put the product through or whatever, they just say it shit. Like that one guy said, looks like the tire would last at least a year, but he never said how many miles he put on the tire. I've got 18k miles on mine right now and they are still over half tread.

 

I got 14,000 miles out of mine before they were near the end of life. One tire was at 5/32nds so I'm going to say that my LT265/70R18 tires were junk.

 

I have the nitto ridge grapplers and have been very happy with them so far (only about 7k miles). Take a look at them, terra grapplers, st maxx. I would also suggest looking at the new Cooper AT3 XLT's that were mentioned.

One thing you might think about, look at going with a 275/70/18 instead of the 285/65/18. They are a little taller to go with your 3" lift and usually a good bit cheaper than 285's. Putting them on with the new wheels, they should look good. I think either size would look good, but the 285/65/18 may look a little small with a 3" lift.

 

Had ko2's they looked awesome, but didn't balance well. Got falken at3 wilpeaks and absolutely love them!

If you look around online, you can find the stt pros pretty reasonable.. discount tire price matches.. I got mine for 233 a piece.

 

For you and @Grey Wolf:
I'm a street tire guy and I've narrowed it down to either stock Michelin's from TRD Pro or the BFG KO2s. But I'd have to go to 20s since the Pros at a profile shot look too small for the body. Anything out there between the Michelin's or BFG KO2s?

Also, what street wheels do you guys like?

 

Simpletire.com is usually even cheaper than tirerack or discount tire. KO2 are good, but the tire market is so flooded these days, you could prob find something better suited for your needs. I personally would get an AT in Toyo/Cooper/Nitto over a BFG but thats just preferance.

 

I’ve had numerous sets of KO2 tires and they have always been solid. Maybe not the best performer in snow and rain but they wear great for me.
Go for it if thats what you like.

 

Cooper ST Maxx

After these, I can't see myself using any other tires. I love them. Mud, sand, snow, rain, +40c down to -40c they handle like a dream. Little less great on ice but thats what studded nokians are for.

 

Ice tends to be more of a problem in TN in the winter and rain in the spring

 

Dang, there are so many good street rims. Lots of folks here run various street rims and tires. Michelin always comes to mind first when doing lots of highway driving and the occasional trip up in the boonies. As mentioned by @Outbound the ST Maxx's are a great tire. Mine are a year old now and wearing quite well. Good rubber compound.

 

My Maxx's are OK on ice but great in rainy conditions. Outstanding off road. A bit on the heavy side. They come with Armor-Tek sidewalls. Yould really should check out the new Cooper AT3. The new AT3 comes in three different versions depending on your use! Cooper is going to sell a lot of those.

 

I’ve had the Falken Wildpeaks for a little over 1000 miles and have no complaints. Pretty quiet, look good, and initial wear is good. And good price.

I will say that if the updated Cooper AT3 XLT had been available it would have been a toss up.

 

I saw the AT3s when I was doing some googling last night. I'll have to look more when I get to my computer at work.

 

If you like an aggressive tread on an AT tire, take a look at the Kanati brand. Greenball makes them--great rep for golf cart tires and motorcycle tires. They got in the truck tire biz. They are reasonably priced. Handle the water well. Aggressive. Not sure on snow, I live in Texas.

 

I have the AT3s with no complaints.

 

I've had 275/70/18 KO2s on my truck for approximately 45,000 miles. No problems out of them at all and I still have about 9/32nd tread depth left on all 4. I do rotate them every 5k miles but they have been good so far. Very quiet and I have not noticed any traction issues in the rain. Having said that, I am looking hard at Cooper STT Pro or ST MAXX for my next set in either 275/70/18 or 285/65/18. The 275s look a little narrow sometimes to me.

 

Toyo AT2 Extremes. I do mostly highway driving as well and I find they ride very well. 55K warranty.

The 275s look too narrow to me too! So I'm pretty set on at least 285s....

 

I've looked at the grapplers too. That was the original I wanted to go with but then got to looking around I didnt even think about the 275/70s....

 

I think the 275's might look a little skinny on stock wheels with a 3" lift, but you putting them on after market wheels will help with that. To me, I could not tell enough difference in width between many of the 285/65/18 and 275/70/18 on a truck to justify the price difference, and I liked how the 275's filled up the wheel well more.

While we're on it though, 295/70/18 will look better than both of those sizes on a 3" lift haha....how important is losing say 2 mpg on average???

 

I have 51K miles so far on my 275/70/18 BFG AT/KO2s on MB 352 wheels. I got a good deal on that combo from Discount Tire about 2 1/2 years ago.

I like the looks, durability and wear of the BFGs. Mine still look like they can go for another 10K to 15K miles.

But they never balanced right, though. Every set of BFGs I’ve had in the past 20 years I’ve ran them in 5 different vehicles have had balancing issues. Luckily for me, the imbalance has been minor and tolerable and outweighed by the long wear I’ve gotten out of them.

I also found they don’t have as much traction on wet pavement and even less in the mud when compared to other tires I’ve tried in the past. I don’t do any mudding, though, and am more of a fair-weather wheeler preferring dry, easy trails the few times I go off-roading. The wet traction issues concern me a bit, especially when hauling the kids, but in my opinion are still outweighed by long tread wear and durability.

By durability, I’m referring to punctures and blowouts. I’ve never had a bad blowout with any BFGs, but I did have a bad one with a different brand at highway speed on an old 1st gen Tacoma I used to own. I’ve gotten nails and such stuck in a few BFGs the past couple decades, but they all still managed to provide a very slow leak to the point that when I eventually discover the puncture, I rarely ever knew how long it had been like that.

I’ve noticed the price of BFGs, both A/Ts and Muds, are usually higher than many other brands. I usually tend to get them if a shop had a sale or discount on them at the time I need a replacement set. They’re also usually readily available as opposed to having to wait several days to a week for a set to come in - something to consider if you’re in an impatient mood at the time of purchase.

Otherwise, I usually just go with whatever all-terrain brand is on sale or has a better price and good reviews. I keep reading about the Falken tires, which I’ve noticed are cheaper than BFGs and may go that route next time.

 

What size are you running?

 

275/70/R17 iirc. Might be 285. I can verify after work today.

 

Nitto RGs have been great for me

 

I haven't put tires on my tundra yet but I put some Goodyear duratracs on the wife's 4wd xterra and they are awesome! Not sure exactly how many miles are on them but they have worn very well over the year and half we've had them.

Thanks for the reply. What about wheels for street? Its difficult to find a good looking wheel for a truck but the factory Tundra Pro wheels look awesome just need more all black options.
