Just got my truck back from having the tranny fluid changed and noticed a sound like a turbine shutting down when I turned the key off. Don't remember ever hearing that sound before having the work done, only lasts for a couple of seconds. When I took it back to the shop they said that it was normal. It's a 2012 with 57k miles.

    It’s the air pumps.

Is this something that should have been happening all along and only started when the fluid levels were set with the computer ?

Be glad that's all you're hearing...mine always sounds like someone yelling for help from under my bed cover. Oh wait...nevermind! Forget I said anything!

Every Toyota truck I have been in does this. You may just not have noticed it until recently.

No one has a thought on whether setting the tranny fluid level with the computer could cause this to just start happening. 57k miles no noise.Tranny fluid changeair pump decides to work ?

I’m thinking they updated the software in your ECU while they were connected to check trans fluid temp / level.

The older programming (my 2008 included) does not run the air pump on shut-down. Newer software levels do, as it dries out condensation in the air injection valves, preventing sticking and issues.

Thanks. I wondered if that was a possibility. Wonder why Toyota didn't send out something about getting the upgrade. Thanks again.
