Summary: Torn PCL, sprained MCL, no surgery needed. Still have some restrictions until December.

    Novel:

Last September I came up short in a rhythm section nose high, rear end a bit to the right, front end slammed down with authority just prior to the face of the next jump, flipped the bars, got thrown around all nasty, banged up all over but my knee was burning like crazy, swelled up, couldn't move it, you know the drill. Went to urgent care next day, they said no tears, just take it easy. Thought I was being a baby so I ran a 5k the next weekend. Still couldn't take my sneaker off without a lot of pain, still limping, couldn't curl my leg.

Three weeks later tripped and fell on it, lost about two weeks of progress. Back to limping, knew something was up.

Saw family Dr. he thought I may have torn something. MRI showed torn PCL, sprained MCL, bone bruise, water on the knee. Then had to travel to see a PCL specialist, confirmed tear but was hopeful I shouldn't need surgery. Just had the follow up a few weeks ago he confirmed no surgery. Phew! Just can't do any isolated hamstring exercises until December. I can run but no sprinting for a bit.

I won't be riding until next year to play it safe. Still not 100%.

Good reminder I'm not in my teens and I work for a living to support my family.

I will be taking it easy for here on out, haha. PCL surgery has a lengthy recovery and a lot of pain, I'm so fortunate it wasn't that bad.

So yeah, be careful on that thing!

    Damn!!!

Been there for sure. I’ve got all geeked up in the speed bumps as well. I was doing it wrong and not upshifting to a higher gear before entering so I didn’t top out. I was 17, so I bounced.

Oh yeah, when I get tired, stopping and resting. The days of riding hard for long distances are over.

Oh yeah, always go a gear taller in whoops, haha.

Seems like we don't bounce anymore, just tear and break! I'm glad 17 year old you bounced away safely.

Yup that was my issue, I was starting to pump up, I was hitting my limit but the old "one more lap-itis" kicked in. That was my third "last lap". On the lap prior to my crash I came up a hair short in the same spot but saved it, next lap, no saving it.

    I knew better.

Anyway, I can't wait to see this orange beast build.

I can't wait to really open it up in the woods.

I have two large logs in the back yard to practice hopping over....so that might be entertaining...for my neighbors.

That stinks having to fix it already! At least the swing arm survived, and you got to the root of the handling issue quickly.

    *root, not roof. Lol.

    First impressions:

So the last two days have been awesome. I forgot how much I loved this sport.

    First day:
    KTM 450
    Yamaha WR250
I should have went jogging for a few minutes and stretched more to get the blood flowing. I was so excited...arm pump set in after about an hour. It went away after some grip movements while riding. The suspension still needed adjusting. Over the whoops I was getting a paddle feeling. I had my buddy watch to see if I was loading the shock and that was not the case, so I knew rebound needed to be slowed down a bit.
That night I knew I was gonna be hurting. Using muscles I haven’t used in a minute.

    Day two:

    KTM 450 x 2

Yep, I am sore, but send it anyway. Lol

After some early morning adjustments to the rebound front and rear, I feel this is pretty good. I may increase the compression in the front and take some air out of the fork. I’m at 145 psi now, and will take it down a bit.

The whoops where a lot better today, and in the area we were riding are plentiful.

    We had a blast!

Later into the day we came up on a lonely RZR parked off one of the roads. I thought that was strange and then seen some legs up in the air and a very white ass. I revved up the motor and gave a thumbs up and a very loud “YES!” and kept to our selves.

Hahaha! Too bad you didnt have a GoPro rolling for the RZR encounter, that is some funny stuff!

Glad you are enjoying the bike!

A friend of mine that rides went over the bars Saturday, bike flopped on him, peg split his leg open, fortunately only needed a bunch of stitches.

    Take it easy!

That’s what I said!!! Lol. Dirty minds think alike.

Damn. Sucks your friend went down. I flopped mine over today in a tight section, not even moving. How in the hell does that happen? Oh well, first scratches on the fender and silencer.

Hopped a couple logs today, didn’t do bad. I may have to practice on the rather large ones in my back yard....after knee braces are purchased of course.

    So funny story.

A couple weeks ago we went Jeeping at one of our favorite trails. This so happens to be the Special Forces winter survival training area, and it can get pretty nasty up there (category 5 climbing...for fun). We were hiking to the top and seen a few guys coming down and were joking if we seen some women coming down we would ask them “is this where the gang bang is?” Funny enough, a couple young ladies were making the decent and they guy I went riding with today did just that. These couple of ladies got the joke (movie old school) and laughed.

So today after we stopped he said “this would have been the ultimate time to do my gang bang joke...”

I was laughing my ass off and said “until they said..yes it is!”

Yeah, it's easy to go down. Do you have any radaitor supports on her?

I use Works Connection rad braces for MX, I think Enduro Engineering and a few other companies make real beefy ones for woods riding. They can be a life saver, as I'm sure you know!

Sucks when a little tip over causes a rad leak.

These are on the short list of things to purchase.

Radiators can sure ruin a trip after a small oops.

    Knee braces first.

What kind of oil are you 4t guy running? I would really like to buy bulk, like 2 gallons or more.

I use BelRay. My CRF450R has separate engine and transmission oil so my stuff is different.

I have heard at the Pro Nationals many privateers use Rotella.

I have heard the same thing.

Motul is what is what KTM specifies and offer in 1 gallon jugs.

Rotella T4. I have run it in the following bikes over the last 10 years. CRF450R, KLX250S, KLR650, and now in My DRZ400S. Has always run perfect and provided perfect clutch engagement. My DRZ has a Rekluse as well, no issues there.

I won't pay for boutique motorcycle oil when I drop it every 500 miles anyway.

My 450xcw I ran motul, Amsoil or Golden Stectro full synth and the internals always looked good.

My XR650R would destroy oil and the only thing that would last was Amsoil, I had to do oil analysis on it due to long full throttle stints, all the others sheared early compared to it.

My buddy also runs Rotella in his 2018 500EXC. Both bikes pictured here.
My DRZ is setup as a do everything trail bike. It will do everything I ask of it, even some mild GP/GNCC circuit laps.

After a few years of MX in my younger days and seeing all of my friends get absolutely demolished physically, all we ride now is woods. We do a lot of the local harescramble series and we have a ton of trails down here to go rip on any given day.

I've had bikes (RMZ250, RM250, CRF450) and quads (400ex and now a 450r) and have consistently jumped between both of them. For some unknown reason, I'm much more comfortable on a quad and for that reason I'm faster on one. Hell, I can even jump a quad much farther than I'm comfortable jumping a bike. I'm weird. I have a late 80s model yamaha tri-zinger 60cc three wheeler that I'm restoring for my son to ride when he gets older. Can't wait for that.

Smart! I started riding Hare Scrambles, I think I should finish out that way too, haha.

Please share the restoration with us, sounds like a great project.

Will do. It was my wife's and my sister-in-law's that they rode when they were kids. Her parents are building a new house and we were tearing down a very old family barn where they are building their new house. I saw it sitting under a bunch of junk and pulled it out and threw it in the truck so they didn't get rid of it. Me and my Dad will be going through it this winter to get it in riding condition. I'll be sure to post some pictures. It's a special little project that will bring back memories for everyone involved and that's what it's all about..... plus I need to get my little riding buddy trained up as fast as I can :burnrubber:

I just picked up this street legal Italian 2012 Husqvarna TE310 with 200 miles on it for $3200. Its not legal to ride in the woods here in NY but some guys I know have been getting around it.
It been about 15 years since I ridden and I'm very excited about getting back into it.

Congrats. If you need parts SWM took over the BMW/Husky plant and is making bikes that use the red head. Fully interchangeable.

I'm giving SWM one year before I commit, but right now that is the only bike I'm interested in. I want an RS300R in my garage. I like the 500 as well, but feel it's overkill for singletrack and tech riding. Best generation of the Husky lives again.
